EPA targeting motorsports

Post by Teufelshund »

Has anyone read through the proposed legislation? Sounds pretty legit. Here is a summary of what the law covers.

Well this would essentially ban racing. Let's hope it doesn't go through.....

I've followed the SEMA vs EPA story somewhat, but I don't think I understand this link. Who is Pat Mulry?

Ultimately, I'm not sure this is much different that what SEMA pumps out frequently.

Pat Mulry is a lawyer that 24hrs of LeMons hired to decode the legislation into something us peasants can comprehend.

Breaking News: SEMA President Chris Kersting Responds to EPA Decision on Racecar Regulation
SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting released the following reaction to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement that it would withdraw its proposed regulation on modified racecars:

“We want to thank Congress for pushing EPA to withdraw an ill-conceived proposal. However, confusion reigns: the agency continues to assert new-found authority under the Clean Air Act to regulate modification of vehicles for use in competition. This means that those converting and racing competition vehicles, and the parts and services industries that support them, do so under new EPA policy that considers the activity illegal. Only clarifying legislation, such as that offered under the RPM Act, will confirm that such activity is legal and beyond the reach of future EPA regulations. The racing industry and public need a long-term solution to eliminate any uncertainty regarding how the Clean Air Act is interpreted."

The EPA figured out they were going to get stepped on by congress if they implemented as originally planned, on the original schedule.

So they put that (single, one) plan on the back burner for now and allow the populace to focus back on their "normal" highly cerebral endeavors - DWTS, Celebrity Wifeswap, exchanging cute kitten videos on FB, etc...

Nothing to see here, just go back to whatever you were doing...

Meanwhile, they can get back to making sure that you can't buy a washing machine in this country that gets your clothes clean.

Or a toilet that clears in one flush.

Or a dishwasher that actually gets your dishes clean.

Or a water heater of sufficient capacity.

Making sure that your air conditioning unit is hopelessly obsolete in 10 years (and must be replaced, rather than repaired).

Making sure you car is so hopelessly unrepairable it also needs to be replaced every 10 years.

And your lawn mower.

Making sure you have to buy a jug of pee if you want to run your diesel engine - What did you think urea was???

And ensuring that powerplants that actually produce enough electricity to keep your lights on are replaced by technology that can't possibly keep your lights on (much less your heat + air).

They've got plenty of things they are constantly working on...

Funny how all that works Mike. People who have gone to college for longer than I've been alive still don't understand how the water cycle works.

It's not about the water cycle.

It's about rationalizing an increase in next years budget.
