Opportunity for ETR to make money and help the community

Post by MARKP »

Ever heard of a Street Survival school? Want to help the community and help the club make a little money? If you answered yes to either of these questions, I'm talking to you.

We are looking for some volunteers, and at least one motivated individual with a little spare time. SCCA has asked the regions to step up and do some Street Survival schools. These schools take teenage drivers and teach them defensive driving skills that will help them avoid accidents and bad driving habits. We need at least one person to oversee the school, talk to a few businesses, maybe go to a PTA meeting or two, and help us get some students. I probably already have a good lead on a source for students. After that, we will need some volunteers to instruct and work the school.

I want to be perfectly clear on this, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A SUPER AUTOCROSSER, ROAD RACER, OR INSTRUCTOR. Representatives from SCCA will train you before you are with any students. We are not teaching autocross or road race. We are teaching basic car control skills and giving them experience in a controlled environment.

If you have any interest in this, please contact me and let's see if we can do some good for the community and our club.

It may be a good opportunity to get some brownie points with Pellissippi if you promote it to them and their younger students.

Oh yeah, and I'm interested in learning to instruct. I have a young son that will be learning to drive in a couple years and the better instructor I am the better he will be.

I would be game for helping! We have nothing in the Tri-Cities in any form to help teen drivers and we really need something here.

I don't always have free weekends, but put me in the pool of potential instructors.

If we are not out of town at an autox I and probably Lin will instruct and we can use my trailer and TV to play any videos that would need to be played for instructional education for the students.

If it happens at PSCC, then usually, they let you use an auditorium for the classroom portion. And based on how many we had at the BMW school I instructed at, we would need that much room.

BMW is doing their school in May. Perhaps we could target the first or second week after school gets back in....maybe later, since advertising at schools is probably where most of the students will come from.

I have instructed and still have my polo, would be glad to do it again, depending on scheduling.

Sounds like we have a lot of interest in instructors. Anyone interested in taking the helm and getting this going? Scott Dobler said he would help us get it off the ground. He has done a lot of these in the southeast division.

I'd be willing to help out in the Tri Cities area also.
