WTB Air Compressor

Post by Teufelshund »

I'd like to have at least a 10 gallon capable of running impact wrenches, die grinders, etc. I have a little Dewalt I had to run a nail gun, but this die grinder is going to kill it

That's similar to the Husky one I got from Jeff. Mine is pretty noisy. Jeff bought a quieter and smaller one but I don't know the specs. Maybe he will chime in.

The new one I got is electric and very quiet. It is a home depot one and it will run air tools as well so the directions say. You can carry on a conversation while it is running and not have to raise your voice so the other person can hear you.

Running nailers and staplers require a lot less CFM than a grinder. I just buy cheap electric grinders. They last as long as expensive ones.

It takes a ton of air to run a die grinder. I have a 20 gallon 3 HP 125PSI compressor in my trailer and it has a very hard time keeping up with a die grinder.

If you really want to run a DA grinder or a die grinder(and not have to constantly wait on the compressor to "catch up) you need a compressor that will do ~7 SCFM at at 90psi. And you are going to be hard pressed to get that without spending at least $450-$500 and it's gonna be a 220 unit.

Agreed with what everyone said about running grinders and the like.

Anything that is a constant use type tool (grinders, cut off wheels, paint guns, etc) is going to require more than a $200 investment. I've got a small home depot model that was about $120 (4 years ago) and works great for impacts and the like, but even an air ratchet pulls so much constant PSI that its only good for about five bolts before its gotta fill up. I've painted a trailer with it before but it was a spray for 10 seconds, re-pressurize for 20 type deal. In the next year I'd love to put in a non-portable unit that can keep up with constant use tools like what you're talking about but im leaning towards a thousand dollar budget for something that isn't scraping the bottom of the barrel in quality.
