1990 turbo Mazda Miata for sale $5000obo

Post by 90civichb »

Craigslist link with images. I've listed it for a bit less for ETR as I would love to see it stay local if possible.

https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/d/ ... 63292.html

I have owned this car since 2014. It has gone though various setups since then.

The car is heavily gone through with a focus on autocross (open class) and track day fun. It is still a street car and it qualifies for antique tags. The modifications done are extensive and done all in house.

Engine:
Kraken turbo cast manifold (T2 Flange)
M10 inconel hardware with locking hardware
Garrett T25 turbo (VSR balanced W/Gpop shop in January)
Kingugawa wastegate actuator.
Full 2.5" V band exhaust downpipe back, stops at axle.
RX7 460cc injectors
Megasquirt DIYPNP2 W microsquirt module.
stainless steel clutch line
6 puck sprung clutch disk and lightweight flywheel.
D585 individual coils
Innovate LC-2 Wideband
Full front mount setup (ebay core) with 2.5" piping.
Electronic boost control
Water reroute (DIY setup W/ CNC water neck in rear)
Engine damper with stock motor mounts.
Ebay radiator
DIY catch can setup.
Various heat shields

Suspension/drive-train:
NB Bilstein with ground control sleeves (700/400lb setup)
Extended top hats.
Poly mounts on every suspension component and rear diff.
NB subframe, spindles, uppers, lowers, ball joints
NB Racing Beat tubular (1.125 x .188) swaybar with block mounts and endlinks.
R package tie rod ends
Depowered power steering rack. All welded.
Extended lower ball joints
ARP studs with new Centric hubs up front (the good part number)
Avanti S1 Storms W/ Maxxis VR-1s in a 245.
RX7 clutch type differential W/stub shafts and Miata half shafts 4:1 gear.
NB front and rear brake setup (nonsport) with Hawk DTC-50s all around.
Trackspeed engineering brake ducts up front
Stainless steel braided brake lines all around.

Interior:
Kirkey 47 intermediate race for driver in an 18" floor mounted.
Kirkey 39 drag in 15.5" passenger side, floor mounted.
D580 battery form XS power mounted behind passenger seat.
Boost/vacuum gauge, wideband, water temp and boost controller switch.
LED lights mounted inside switch activated
Power distribution block for all interior gauges for easy troubleshooting.
NRG 2.5 quick release with Momo Montecarlo and extension hub.
Simpson 6 point harness for driver and Sparco 4 point for passenger.
No heat/AC or power steering, all HVAC controls pulled and all associated units (blower, condenser etc.).
Hard Dog Race (I believe) roll bar, with harness bar in Silver.
All interior carpet and some sound deadening still in the car.

Exterior:
DIY splitter with supports and adjustable front cables.
DIY wheel canards attached to front bumper.
DIY tube front.
DIY fender spacing with rear mesh
DIY rear polycarbonate spoiler.
Acrylic triangle windows with bubble vents.
Terry body springs for truck and aero catch pins for the front.
Hard top with OEM latches. Can be removed with bar and seats still in.
Soft top is removed.

Needs:
This car has been used as a race car with the occasional dragon runs for the past 6 years. It's extremely harsh, pretty loud (still meets track requirements), and has a ton of NVH. If you have ever owned a car that you compete with there are consumables with the hobby. Car runs 5W-40 Rotella T6 and is changed before every event. There are some small oil leaks around the rear of the engine. I am pretty sure it's the rear main. It's not to a point that I care to take the transmission out but when left a few weeks there is a small area with oil under it.

The rear diff is also starting to weep a bit around the rear seal. I rebuilt it back in 2015 and have since run it without mercy on 275 Hoosiers in autocross and at least 5 track days. I was going to pull it and while in there shim the diff up for more lock. It's fine the way it is when you are on street tires but the hoosiers were a different level and it would unload the diff often.

The body has a bit of rust near the rear quarters. It's a common area on the Miata since dirt accumulates at the weep hole and water can't get out. It's nothing major and I never really cared to fix it. The hard top covers the ingress point so I don't worry about it anymore.

The paint has seen better days. It was resprayed at some point in life, most likely an Econo job.

It could use a proper tune. I have tuned the car myself and even built the ECU myself. I never took it to get tuned on a dyno but it would help with hot starts and weather changes. I use a small tablet to tune it and usually need to do a few adjustments during peak cold/warm months.

This car has a Youtube channel that I made around building and racing it.

It will show you the various steps I took and work I did to it in that time. I learned a ton and got great feedback doing it this way. I am all for test drives on this car, but, I would need proof that you have the funds to purchase it first. This is a pretty serious car and I would like to sell to someone looking to get into the hobby with some time and space for it. All the parts are good quality where I found to be important. I am not above using ebay things but if a component moves I try to avoid it.

[emoji50] Sorry to see you selling it. It was always very fast and fun to watch at the autocrosses.

Thanks Mark. Not excited to see it go but some new opportunities were presented to me and they require some sacrifice.

Good luck! This would be a good start at an XS class car, probably. But as you probably know, you'll have to find the right person that would want a car this far along, which unfortunately will probably not be easy. Price is probably more than fair to the right person.

Yeah, it's a dedicated car for sure. I'd have better luck parting it out but I just haven't got the time. It's a super fun car and really fast. I'd love to see it stick around the area.

Hopefully, it'll stick around locally. I've enjoyed watching it develop over the years. GLWS

Probably way light for an XS car, but a proven STM winner :D and a great platform to go really fast on R's or slicks for really cheap.

Yea, If I had to guess, this one is prob over 100lbs too light for XS and would need a good bit of interior bits added back to be XS legal.

But as Rife said....would be GREAT for STM

Haven't read the rules for XS but if you can ballast up it may be an option. Has a good bit of interior in it considering the weight of the car. With that said STM was the only thing I ran in the car, with the exception of some XP fun on the 275 Hoosiers. That was probably the most fun I've had in autocross with the car but it requires a bunch of changes elsewhere to really be competitive with a tire like that. Talk about a modern sensation though.
