WTB: Weekend/Autocross Car
Re: WTB: Weekend/Autocross Car
I hate to admit how much I paid for my Miata. But hey the shocks are worth more than the car. Not to mention the SSR's the don't make anymore.

I've offered this one to a couple of people for $5500. No one's even come to look: http://etrscca.org/etrsccaforum/viewtop ... 00&start=0

I actually showed my brother your ad, and that is, by far, the best deal we've seen. I think he is dead set on not getting a Miata though.Brian wrote:I've offered this one to a couple of people for $5500. No one's even come to look: http://etrscca.org/etrsccaforum/viewtop ... 00&start=0

Brian's car is really fun. I almost bought it at one point...
Now that my autocross career is kinda in limbo, this thread actually has me thinking about it again. I wish more people ran STR here...

Lol, I'm going to get skewered for saying this, but I can relate. I tend to equate a fast Miata to a purse with rocks in it. You have to respect what it can do, but that doesn't mean you're going to want to carry one around.Knox MSP wrote:I think he is dead set on not getting a Miata though.

Best analogy I've heard so far. I like the Miata for what it is (cheap reliable transportation), but I've never really enjoyed it as a performance car.
On topic - your brother ought to be able to find straight Fox bodies / 3rd gen f-bodies and LT1 4th gens in that price range all day long.

Just wait til you drive an HS SVT Focus.steverife wrote:Now that my autocross career is kinda in limbo
Seriously though, and more on topic, I've really enjoyed autocrossing my SVT Focus. And they can be had for around the $5500 mark if you take the time to shop around. With some parts it can be a locally competitive and fun ST car, or a good H-stock car in stock form. You can put a lot of stuff in it. Good gas mileage.
You mentioned 240's and MR2's, so a Focus of any kind is likely not to be considered. It's fun and capable, but still an egg-shaped, high roof Focus.

I was actually going to mention the FSVT as an idea, but it sounds like he is pretty dead set on RWD.
The 240sx isn't a bad choice (it has potential in a few classes), but it is hard to find one that isn't absolutely beat. The MR2 is a good choice, but not really competitive anywhere beyond stock - so plan to buy R's if that is the goal.

I tend to think of a proper Miata to the guy in the movie.. "Taken" it might not look so bad-azz...but in the end,its gonna kick your azz!! no matter what you do.

A Miata is like the rabbit in Monty Python and The Holy Grail. It looks pretty sweet, cute, and innocent, but can slaughter just about everything else on an autocross course....and a track if it has a turbo.

The thing about Miatas is that I absolutely hate them as street cars....
