Log book says Jim Russell School car #29
First entry in the log book is 10-16-87 Del Mar Grand Prix, Driver: Steven Ekener.
other listed owners in the log books:
Greg Zeboray
Aaron Garfinkel
John Miller
Kevin w. Hull - 2/28/94
Steve Thompkins - April 2001
I bought this car from Steve Thompkins in April 2011, he is the one who had this car shipped from the west coast in the early 2000's. Steve did time trials and hill climbs with the car. I believe it is one of the early cars, possibly a school car.
I raced it from 2012 to 2013 time trials mostly, but I did a regional race at Barber in 2013.
The safety wire on the lead engine seal is broke, but the motor is indeed unopened.
What we have done:
Rebuilt front calipers(Girling) with new pistons
New Fuel cell
New Radiators
New radiator tubing and hoses
cleaned the carb and new gaskets
Double Roll hoop added
Scroth FIA belts exp 2016
I am 6'0 and have plenty of head room.
The car runs great and is still fast, would be great for someone looking to run regionals in.
Comes with 2 sets of BBS wheels 1 set of other aluminum wheels and a small spares package of misc suspension pcs, front wing and end plates, 1 wheel center, and other things I will have to get to the shop to inventory.
***I am asking $12k OBO***
Car is located in Huntsville, AL

Re: FS: Formula Mazda
How much did it cost new in 1987 and how long has it been inactive? 12K I was thinking 4500.base..

Re: FS: Formula Mazda
From what I have read they cost between 30-40k new back then.
it has been "inactive" since the last time trial and regional I ran in 2013.
4500?
Thats the used cost of a hewland webster gearbox alone.
this isn't a F440 autox car.

Re: FS: Formula Mazda
Bob, later chassis are now listed in the $19k to $25k. It is a spec series so not much difference between them other than the perception of newer chassis might have less time on it. Logbooks, condition of complete car and perception set the price. Pro FM cost even more. The earlier FM class expenses are gas and tires if you don't crash. Specs limit allowed suspension mods so you choose to get good tire wear or go fast and wear tires.
Lotus Elise cost $35-$40k new. You don't see drive ready Elise at $4500 used.

See, that's why I threw the lure out there.2013 is three years ago plus it being an 87. Just fishing folks, but might not be bad at 9500 off the shelf. The rest depends on income.
