Protect your E-Mail Address

Post by disneyd »

You may have noticed some weird user names popping up lately. These are automated bots that register in an attempt to post spam on the board. The way I have things set up they can register, but they generally can't post (they'd have to respond to the confirmation e-mail, which they don't have the time to do when attemping to spam thousands of sites). Chris Harp and I are deleting those accounts when we see them.

However, this made me think of something else... If you haven't already done so, you should go to your profile on this forum and make sure that the setting "Always show my e-mail address:" is set to NO. If that setting is set to YES it means that anyone (even people without user accounts at all) can see your e-mail address. I'm sure that there are spammers harvesting e-mail accounts from message boards that way. People can still register and send you a PM asking for your e-mail address if they need it.
