Don't know what that concrete pas is in the NW corner, but it opens to the road in two places. Paddock on either side.

That lot is huge - 800'x900'. There are some spots on the concrete that I can't identify -- maybe drains or tie-down points?

Anyone know anything about this lot on the southwest corner of the main runway?

Not sure about directions on the map but if you are looking at the place where there are 2 commercial jets parked, that is the Delta maintainence area.

There is a spot on the other end of the field that has lots of nice new concrete in that picture.

Also, there is a smaller area on the military section that appears to be vacant in that picture. That might hold some possibility. I would guess final approval would come from three different people for each area.

The area over by the Fed-Ex depot would be a dream come true. With some luck it might be dormant on Sunday. Even a relatively small chunk of that area would be awewome..just playing a hunch, but it looked to me like
there was room for 2 minute course or more..

Take a look at this image. It is old but the area at the bottom that is bare dirt is now developed and appears to have a nice chunk of pavement now. It is close to the taxiway but was empty when I was by there earlier today. Hmm...

I think the problem with airport concrete now is security. I doubt there is any way they'll let a bunch of cars anywhere near the runway. Wouldn't hurt to ask though...

Would be awesome! I know there are other clubs that use airports. Im not sure if they have a friend that works there, or how they got their "in."

The Toledo Pro Solo held in August this year is on an active airport similar to ours. The proximity to the active portion of the airport is even similar. It is definitely doable if the powers that be at our particular airport are open to it.

I think we're located in Tennessee. Might be better to check that state for a closer driver. ;)

This post began under "McGheeTyson" and really should be under airport autocross.
We have the FAA closing regs and getting a FBO to close a minor airport for a day is still possible. I am not sure about a major field like McGheeTyson with its military component. We did talk yrs ago with the National Guard about using some of their pavement(partially as an entertainment for the students who were based there during training) prior to 9/11 but even then the base could be declared closed and off- limits to us at any time if the alert code rose above a certain level. In other words it wouldnt take much and in the words of Clint, do you feel lucky?
Almost all of the fields listed fall into the minor airport ranking. Rockwood only has a single long runway with no taxiways; Monroe Co, McMinn Co and Sevier Co are more likely targets. Loudon Co is thinking about building an airport for all the super rich guys who are buying yachts from Christensen and would fly in to watch the build progress and pick out drapes, etc.
