Sounds like it might be worthwhile to just walk up and get a decibel reading...

When I went up to listen during an event a while back, the sound of street cars in the complex, cars on the Hwy, airplanes in the sky were about the same noticeable sound level or louder. Yard equipment was much more loud as they mowed and groomed.

from other forums threads on this same "problem" I've read that it's often not the motor noise (though that is part of it) but that non car folk get REALLY annoyed at the sounds of all the tire squealing … not sure how that can be overcome

The meter readings don't really show up like that, as in: That far away, a gentle breeze across the microphone shows up louder than something 1/4 mile away. A lawnmower across the street is always going to meter louder than an F-18 on afterburners 1/2 mile away...

I've been up there, Ted's been up there, Chris has been up there - I'm sure others have been up there as well.

We're essentially down to the point where maximum engine noise is about equal to tire noise, mostly less (engine noise).

But there's not much to do regarding tire noise...

Also, on a side note, I'm aware that a SCCA region is (or has been) running a sound limit in the lower 80s at Ft Devens.

But they're measuring that from considerable distance (~ 1/4 mile or more) and they're routinely passing things that are louder than we allow (specifically, several unaltered Cobra sidepipes which never pass at Pelli).

As noted, a gentle breeze will blow 75 - 80 on the meter pretty easily.

So I don't think we can do anything useful with the meter over at the condos (other than pencil whipping a more generous sound policy).
