Long time no see... need help

Post by Crash477 »

Hey everyone, long time no see. Im back in Knoxville, out of the Army now, and just bought a car to prep for racing. Just bought a 1987 Acura Legend Coupe LS, 5MT. I am going to be prepping it for the 2013 season to compete in Lemons and Chump Car racing.

I am trying to replace the drivers side front axel and I cannot for the life of me get the axle nut off. I already broke 2 ratchets using a cheater pipe. I don't have air tools. So with that said, does anyone near Tazewell pike have some air tools and impact drill? I have the 36mm socket, but its going to take an impact drill for this one.

If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it! I would drive over, and have you loosen the nut so I could finish the install back at my shop.

Thanks,

Steven

I'm up on Merchant's drive. I've got a 3/4" socket set with a breaker bar that's about 18" long that I always use. I've also got a good air impact. Bring it up, I'd be happy to help out another lemon car.

Awesome, sounds good. What time is good for you? I'm pretty much available when ever.

welcome home Steve ... instead of a ratchet I'd try a breaker bar with a long extension .... ratchets really don't like that kind of torque ... but yeah air power FTW

I use a breaker bar with an extension on the bar and and no extension at the socket end. Put car on level surface, put socket on nut, make sure to have as much of 90 deg angle on bar& socket roll car forward or back until bar is on floor/driveway,start car and ease front or back depends on what side and the nut will come loose. Remember to ease, not dump clutch and unstake the nut first.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

And a big thank you to Gary for the help. I drove to his house and used a bigger breaker bar and a cheater pipe, and it worked! I'm going to finish the job tomorrow.
