well it's official

Post by CobraJim »

Mike and I had to drop out of the race sunday due to a lack of oil pressure. We were hoping it was a gage or broke wire but no such luck. I tore into it this morning and found that I sheared the oil pump drive rod. It's a good bet it broke some where on my last run but there's no tellin where; nothin left to do but pull the motor and find out how much damage was done. along those lines there is a little metal in the oil, soooo

Yikes! I saw you guys winching it on the trailer... I was hoping it wasn't something serious. Sounds like a rebuild is in order; maybe you caught it early enough that the damage is not too extensive.

That sucks. Good excuse to build some horsepower into it, though.

What part of "traction limited through third gear" don't you understand???

Don't worry, traction limited through fourth gear is on the way... :pirate:

It does suck, we're hopeful that it's not a complete loss - never heard lifter noise or bearings spinning, maybe we caught it in time...

Update: It had the heavy duty aftermarket oil pump drive shaft installed - twisted + sheared it.

yea I'm not too tore up about it... Like Mark says it's a chance to go faster, the thing that kills me is I had Mike beat, I was just about to lay the smack down and the motor gives up on me, that's what sucks; that and missing Bristol. Just hope I have it back together in time for the evo school; other wise I'll have to give up my slot AGAIN

Not a motor-related thing, but a "while you're in there", curious if you'd thought about putting a roll hoop on that bad boy?

Well that sucks !! glad it did not lock up and you shut it off after the qiuck restart. Pop her out and have the look see. Hope just a flush out from top and some new bearings pump and shaft. But on the bad side since the shaft shiered off it could have been a work in progress befor fail. Pop the heads and check the cross hatch.
