24 Hours of Lemons/Chump Car driver/teammate wanted

Post by Crash477 »

I am building a 1987 Acura Legend Coupe to compete in 24 Hours of Lemons and Chump Car, and I have one spot left to fill in the team. My father-in-law and brother-in-law both race late model dirt track cars as well as dirt track karting. My Father-in-law is an aircraft mechanic and is great with engines and building race cars. He owns and built the car his Son races. My brother-in-law is an excellent welder and machinist, and both of them have experience building roll cages and fabrication. They both live in Columbia, SC, so I am looking for another teammate here in the Knoxville, TN area so that I can have some help when the car is here.

We are looking to have the car prepped and ready to race for the 2013 race season. We plan to do about 3 race weekends a year, possibly more if finances allow. We will race CMP, probably VIR and maybe Lowes. Whatever is centrally close to us all.

I am looking for a 4th teammate who can commit to paying $500-800 per race weekend. Someone who has race experience; autocross, time trials, road racing or whatever. Someone who is handy with a wrench and can help with the car. If you have a tow rig and trailer, then even better! My father-in-law has a tow rig and a nice trailer, but as I mentioned they are in SC, so we would need some way to get the car there. I am the car owner,

Here is a pic of the project car:

Goals for the first few races are to just finish the race.

I hope someone is interested!

That car don't look like a lemon. Its been a few years since I was certified to work on them legends. Wonder if I still have the factory service manuals?

Well the previous owner was in need of cash, so I lucked out.

The car has a valve cover leak; just needs new gasket I think. And pretty much the entire front suspension needs replaced.

the rubber of the valve covers and side covers tend to get hard and then leak. The coolant bypass hoses tend to get hard.. rock hard, then shatter and puke coolant at the most inappropriate times. Replace them with the water pump when doing a timing belt change.

is it an automatic or manual? I remember the auto's would damage the differential pin if you spun the wheels too much.
