old chassis

Post by thewelder »

i am looking for an old formula or spec racer chassis to us as a basis for a mod car. I don't have alot of money but maybe you all know someone that has one in a barn they want to get rid of. Chad

Before I make a big long post, what class and how much are you thinking of spending? The most for the least like me? I already scoured the garages and back yards of E Tn for old formula and sports racers… I have a few ideas on ways to build cheap mod cars, just no time to do it. That time=money thing

this one needs a wee bit of parts...

I mainly looking for the suspenion part(a-arms, shocks, hubs, ect.). A complete roller(no motor or trans) would be nice but I don't think I can afford one. As far as price goes, $1000 or less would be nice.

p.s. thanks for the link I will watch it of a few days. I found a F440 on ebay today that isn't to high right now.

Gary Johnson at East Tn Race Prep had a formula Ford with 2 bodies for sale a while back. Very fair priced...

thanks John, that reminded me I need to talk to Gary about Webster MK9 gears and some other stuff. hehe

a few more web pages to keep an eye on
apexspeed.com/forums club ford, FF, FC, FA, FSCCA, F1000
sportsracer.net D and C sports racers
f500.org F500 stuff

unfortunately a set of decent shocks are in the $1000 range used. New spindles/hub carriers are $500 each new. Best bet in price is an older FF actualy club ford before it gets too old and goes to vintage prices go back up then, F440/500, or old FV. Not sure what the FV web pages are tho something about torsion front, swing axle rear and 4 wheel drum just don't do it for me, but damn good racing. the whole is greater than the parts

The godfather of all things Mazda(Lee Graser) used to have a sports racer chassis; Joe Henslee has a formula ford(early Zink?) but he probably wont part with it
