RX8 Setup

Post by thrdeye »

So, my plan is (was) to go back to a stock bar in the front, because the car is having a really hard time rotating with the 32mm (34mm?) Saner bar. We were running 34F/41R tire pressure, and could have even gone higher, really.

Current alignment

LF
-1.3
RF
-1.6
0 toe

LR
-0.6
RR
-0.7
0 toe

After seeing this pic, I'm wondering if I need to try to make that front bar work by dialing out some rear camber. I mean, it looks like the car is still leaning really deep. I know a little rear toeout will help, but I'm not doing that yet. Next year, the car will have shocks, so I can tighten the rear some with those.

Dunno. Some guy on sandbox saif I was driving it wrong. Probably true, but I would still not expect to nearly tripod the sumbitch.

Stock rear bar, Saner front. No one to my knowledge runs something other than stock rear bar, which makes sense.

I assume Mark will be at Wilmington. I will try to watch his car if I can.

Yeah, Mark will be there.

Chris, just hit him up on rrax, he's actually a good guy and very knowledgeable. But I would agree... the picture there points to a very grumpy car.

I think this was the part of the course that was basically a large right hand sweeper, coming up the hill. It is possible that I was on the brake there to get the car to turn in. edit: If so, I didn't realize I was using much at all, just a brush to get it to tuck behind.

When driving the turnaround at the bottom of the hill with "normal-ish" RWD type air pressures, I could feel the front out side tire start to GGGGRRRRROOOOOOAAAAAAAANNN. Meaning the tire was basically sliding sideways. This is why I figured a lesser front bar might work better. When we upped the pressures, it no longer did this, but of course we probably lost overall grip by doing that.

Id leave it alone till I got dampening under control. That front dive and rear rise can be a killer..

Agree with this. Take a look at the action shots on autoxpix.com. That's a good reference as he likes to take shots like that.

All of the below should be non braking maneuvers.

Where does it push? Entry? Mid-corner? Exit? All of the above?

Does it rotate hard on the throttle? Does it rotate if you lift?

The push is on exit as far as I can tell.

No hard rotation on throttle, as far as I can tell, the gerbils in the engine just aren't up to it. It will rotate some, though.

It will rotate on lift, but nothing dramatic.
