You got it, except Sam was in ssr class, not ssp.

Aaah, that explains it. The class designation ran off the edge of the page of the .pdf, of the results so I guessed and guessed wrong. Which meant my calculation was off and Sam's dial in time was calculated from Darren Seltzer's time and I was right the first time. PAX does play a role in the Pro Challenge dial in times if you qualified, but didn't win, in an index scored class like Bump or SR.

Here's the calculation:

Darren Seltzer won Bump Class with a PAX time of 63.281 in an FM. So his dial in time is 63.281/2 = 31.641/0.922 = 34.318. That's the time listed in the Pro Challenge results tree.
Sam Strano's dial in time from the Pro Challenge tree was 37.050. 37.050 * 0.854 = 31.641. That's Darren Seltzer's PAX time, not Sam's PAX time of 64.574/2 = 32.287. That would have been a dial in time of 32.287/0.854 = 37.807. Good luck making up a difference of 0.757 seconds if your opponent doesn't red light or cone. So if you're in an index class at a Pro Solo and aren't within about 0.1 seconds of the winner, you're pretty much screwed in the Pro Challenge. The relative PAX indexes can be more important than your car preparation and driving ability if you're not in a single class run group. Bump class would be particularly bad. In SR, at least, it's all Street class rear wheel drive cars.

No wonder Sam was trying so hard to get another SSR entry to keep SSR out of Bump Class.
