Nationals 2015 Master Thread
Re: Nationals 2015 Master Thread
Big grip stuff tends to PAX well at big, grippy sites. Cars on street tires tend to do well at challenges because the classes are generally deeper. Statistics. Also, I thought that MT's and Pro's were based of dial ins and not PAX anyway.
I do think that RR does some level of bias against street tires. I don't really care and you shouldn't either...

RR does his calculations on more events than Lincoln. Many events this year had street tires much higher in the rankings, some even winning.
Thanks Trey! Good to see you poking your head back in here.

Re: Nationals 2015 Master Thread
They are if you win your group or it's a single class group. In mixed class groups, PAX can be important for anyone who doesn't win the group and is in a different class than the winner but still qualifies for the challenge. But those people aren't likely to win anyway. Which is also why at a Pro, you really, really don't want to end up in a Bump Class. Also, I thought that MT's and Pro's were based of dial ins and not PAX anyway.

Re: Nationals 2015 Master Thread
I looked at the PAX results by class. It really does look a lot better than last year. The notable exception being Street Prepared (including SSR) and Street Modified (SM and SMF). Either there are almost no bad drivers and cars in those classes or their PAX is too low or some combination of both. The median PAX score, the score for the driver in the middle of each class, which is a more robust statistic than the average score, was less than 200 for SSP, BSP, CSP, DSP and ESP. SM and SMF were 228 and 253 respectively and SSR was 261. All else being equal, which it never is, the expected median would be about 600. The outliers in Street Prepared, ASP 476 and FSP 522, were both small classes.

Re: Nationals 2015 Master Thread
Pros and MT are based off of your pax and that is your dial in for the shootout.

I'm not certain on a MT because I didn't run one this year, but dial in at the Pro is the class leader's time. PAX doesn't matter unless you run an indexed class - Ladies, R1/R2, bump, whatever.jcox07 wrote:Pros and MT are based off of your pax and that is your dial in for the shootout.

Re: Nationals 2015 Master Thread
At an MT, your time is pax'd against your competitors in your *heat*. Top 8 move to the awesome challenge, 9-16 run in the kinda awesome challenge. Your pax time is what your challenge "dial in" is. Whoever runs the fastest relative to their dial in wins the round. If you beat your own dial in, you'll probably win your round, but you have a new dial in for the next one.

So it didn't change? That is how it was last time I ran one in '14. STS was in the same heat as SM and SMF and FSP and maybe DSP. Those cars obliterated us on PAX. It was dumb.

I also read somewhere that RR recommended modifying street tire cars pax for concrete events by a factor of .980MARKP wrote:RR does his calculations on more events than Lincoln. Many events this year had street tires much higher in the rankings, some even winning.

If this lady had ran for her life, it wouldn't have been a close call.
...but seriously, I was watching this closely and it was terrifying. I basically buried my face in the shoulder of the person next to me on the bleachers.
