This may be totally irrelevant, but if software is allowed, the Epic tunes make great power on the s54.

Re: E46 M3 STU
You could make it work! Assuming you can stuff some 275 re71rs on it. The s54 in ST trim will make like 300rwhp and decent tq right? The curve might be a bit more peaky than a Z though. I think the highest hp STU Zs make 285 rwhp or something and those are the heavier HRs. My DE makes right at 270rwhp, weighed it the other day and it's at 3100lbs no gas, no spare, or driver. I still have stock seats, stock battery, a/c, big brembos with 1-piece rotors, and steel bodied shocks. If I went cray I could drop 100lbs off the car.

Re: E46 M3 STU
Lucas - tunes are legal but I am being told that w/o a header the net gains are minimal. The U.S. spec S54 header is very restrictive and actually has the cat built into the header with no other options. The rule set allows moving the cat a whole 6"'s. I have never checked the rules before and don't understand the logic behind limiting the cat location. If it has a cat, it has a cat.
Marcus - the numbers on the cars are very close across the board in almost every catagory. I don't think it is a square peg round hole situation but its more an out of round peg in a round hole.

You've been racing a while. You trying to blaze a trail or trying to win?
Street category is hard enough, IMO. No idea how guys have the passion to tweak and build ad nauseum and still have a day job. Like Eric Anderson. Car was definitely good enough to win if the stars align, but he keeps evolving it.
That has to happen in ST as well, especially on an "unpopular" platform.

The problem with Street Class is that you will probably have to buy a new car every few years to stay competitive, unless you're lucky. My car stopped being competitive in FS when the 2015 Mustangs arrived and the BMW M3's were added to the class. It was cheaper and more fun to modify my car to run in CAM than buy a new car.

I'm not sure the 2015 mustang is the mustang to have in fs after watching the test that they did at nationals last year. The gearing is a big problem and although it did better in 3rd gear and was only off pace by 2 tenths and that was with 2 very good drivers.

Re: E46 M3 STU
The gearing is definitely a problem for fast courses. The stock shifter doesn't lend itself to rapid upshifts. You're about as likely to hit first as third. At Pellissippi, a 2015 Mustang would look pretty good, though. You could gain a bit on the gearing by going to 20 inch wheels, if anyone made a decent tire in that size. BFG and Bridgestone don't, as far as I can tell.jcox07 wrote:I'm not sure the 2015 mustang is the mustang to have in fs after watching the test that they did at nationals last year. Re: E46 M3 STU
Speaking of gearing, do E46s have any issues with that?

Re: E46 M3 STU
If it has the SMG transmission, it hardly matters, but it looks like top speed in second is about 68MPH with the standard tires. That's decent.

First event in the BMW is in the bag. Mixed results. Still trying to process what the car is doing. I know the shop said the from couldn't be aligned due to siezed tierod ends. I ran it pending the installation of those. I pulled the alignment print out and can't figure this thing out at all. Can someone me what my current settings are?
