NA Miata Class Help

Post by DangerDanJD »

I'm trying to determine what class my car will be in this year, other than Novice.

95 Mazda Miata M-Edition
intake, headers, and exhaust,
coilovers, front and rear sway bars,
roll bar, non OEM non airbag steering wheel,
new seats and harnesses.
Wheels and tires will be either
OEM 15x6 BBS with 185's or 15x8's with 205's,
and a very slow driver.

How do I determine my number for ETR SCCA?

M-edition came with a torsen LSD, you would be in STR.

And welcome Dan!

If that went thru, I saw it had to retain air bag status.. which is, well.. moot

I believe the steering wheel rule for ST* went through, but the wheel cannot weigh less than the wheel with the airbag.

14.2 Bodywork
D. "Any steering wheel may be used. An alternate steering wheel assembly, including
all mounting hardware, which replaces an airbag-equipped wheel
is not required to have an airbag but must weigh at least as much as the
standard assembly. An alternate wheel is not required to have a horn button."

Does the steering wheel without the airbag lean to the STM class? just asking JB and myself have air bag wheel. I think STR is the same if it comes with one then no changing to a non bag wheel. Then does that mean we can drop off all the sensors and control module, if so cool ,but if not then oh well. keep same wheel. Just asking.

Stock miata steering wheels aren't too heavy. After a hub adapter, quick-release, and a new steering wheel the weight is close to the stock steering wheel. If need be, you could always add a little bit of lead to the hub to compensate for lighter after market steering wheel.

I doubt it. There's still a passenger side air bag, and I'm reasonably certain you don't get to remove or disable it in Street Touring.

You can choose whatever 2 digit number you want. If there is a number discrepancy either motorsportreg will catch it or when you go to pay at the event.

So regardless of the steering wheel issue, because of the OEM torsen LSD, I will be in STR?

Correct.

I wouldn't sweat over the steering wheel being a pound lighter than oem, at least not locally.
