According to the information I found, your first gear is 2,69 and second is 1.78. The MT-82 in my Mustang is different. First is 3.66, second is 2.43 and third is 1.69. I think that's similar to older Mustangs as well. JY's GT500, OTOH, also has a 1.78 second gear. He also has a lot more low end torque than I do with a bigger motor and a blower. Pulling out of a corner in third, even with a 3.73, would be painful in my Mustang. I'd need a 4.10 to use third as my primary gear on faster courses. Bumping the red line to 7500 with a 3.55 looks to be about right for me in second gear on most courses.

The TR3650 transmission that came in the mid-'01 to '04 Mustangs has a 2.00 second gear. That should work with a 3.73, depending on the tire size.

With the stock 255/55/16 tires and a 6,000 RPM red line, the top speed in second would be 65 MPH. That's adequate for Pellissippi.

Third is 1.33. That's a huge gap. I would say you'd be better off on the rev limiter for seconds than shifting to third.

I'm just talking out my ass, I don't even have a Mustang. My car wouldn't even be a good base line for a stock F-body at this point.

1) You are rarely going to run out of 2nd with a 3.73 gear.

2) I drive a car with a really short 2nd gear and probably spent 20 seconds in the limiter on one of the nationals course and it really wasn't a limiting factor for me time-wise. Very minimal time would have been gained unless you go deep into 3rd.

The '04 Mustang HAD the 4.10 gear but due to an issue with the diff housing leaking I'm switching to the 3.73 intentionally - partly for better daily driving and partly because I thought (possibly mistakenly but we'll see) that the 3.73 would be better suited to Autocross.
After driving the car several times I was planning to start off in 2nd with the 4.10 gear, and will assume to do the same with the 3.73. We'll see once it's in.
Highly doubt a regional course would necessitate a shift into 3rd at any point, but again - I guess I'll find out.
I'll still have the 4.10 gear by the way so if anyone wants to buy it and try it ...

I'm not sure what the ratios are in the '04, of if they're effected by the switch to the 3.73 gear, but the wheels are the staggered Cobra (possibly replicas) 255/40/17 and 315/3517. Either way I highly doubt I'll ever Need to shift into 3rd. Hopefully I'll find out before TOO long *eye roll at mechanic*

Those 315/35/17 tires aren't very tall. The 3.73 will work better.

ok guys and gals I'm new here I talked to some of you today at the event about what class my Miata would be in. I will be running novice class as its my first time running. I've signed up in novice sport touring roadster, my car is on non adjustable struts with tein springs 16x6.5 wheels wrapped in bfg g-force comp tires. exhaust is catless with a thrush turbo muffler engine has not been touched stock style airfilter even. looking into getting my numbers for the car and would like to know what ones to get. I'm number 46. thanks in advance

Yeah that would be good. I'm about to swap transmissions and I may need a set of 4.10's. I'm on 3.73's right now.
