Newbie Here, Hello to All

Post by CrayJ44 »

New to autocross and racing in general. Figured i would start a thread to just kind of introduce myself. (I hope this is okay and I am in the right place.)
Started off doing Extreme Experience a couple of times, but don't want to keep paying that much to drive a fast car around a track. It was a great experience but i would much rather race my own car and maybe build it up or eventually buy a faster car, one step at a time though right? I'm 21 and have always liked going fast and racing around a track. I currently drive a 2003 Mustang GT 5 speed and I love it. Can't wait to meet you guys at an event.

Questions: What class would my car be in?
What numbers should i get to put on my car?

Thanks,
Cody Jackson

Welcome to ETRSCCA CrayJ44. Have you join the SCCA yet? To properly class your car we need to know more about it. Like what tread rating you plan to use on tires and any modifications you have on the car. Our official opening event will be March 5th at smokey stadium.

As far as numbers pick a number 1-99 and they need to be 8" tall. You will also need 4" tall class letters once that is identified. If you go to our page a complete list of instructions for novice drivers or new drivers is listed.

Hell yeah. I wonder how long it will be before it's the year of more electric cars? If you don't want to read an entire book about the many, many classes SCCA has to offer look at the short list of CAM (Classic American Muscle) class rules. Front engine, rear drive American made on 200 treadwear tires are basically the rules. It's a fun class with lots of competition. Welcome.

I'm not sure how to tell what tread my tires are. Do you guys have a set that you race with and a set you daily with?

The sidewall will have the DOT grades. You are looking for a number next to the word Treadwear. I will post a picture in a few minutes.

Let us know what isn't completely stock and we will let you know what classes you are eligible for.

Personally, I have dedicated race tires and street tires. I just swap them off and on.

At first glance I thought this was the new-guy's tire.

"HOLY SHIT, those were made in 2002. Time for new tires!"

Then I realized Pilson posted it and all is normal now.

Those are Ryan's original autocross tires on his Camaro. I bought the wheels thinking I would do something with them. They still hold air. :-)
