hey old timers..

Post by TedV »

I talked to a guy today who ran Camaro's and Firebirds back in the mid 70's to early 80's. He remembered Frank Rouser and couldn't remember Eddies's last name. Eddie was an ETR RE way back then. Figured that should narrow it down. He also remembered a Porsche going through a fence during an "oopsie" in addition to the Citation.

The big question... what was Eddies last name???

Weathers.

1st time I met Eddie, was looking at a Lancia Scorpion off Broadway... we became good friends and he let me drive it . Too much money for me though.
A few weeks later my best friend at the time,and I bought 2 Fiats..mine was a 1977 Fiat Spider and his a 1977 X-19.
and the rest...is History. My autocross life had begun...

Eddie ran a highly modified Fiat 850... that I think Mark Irwin eventually bought. (too many cars...too many years)

Last I heard of Eddie,he was selling Dodges at Burgin. if that tells you how long ago that was. but word is he has a lil shop up in Gatlinburg.. selling happiness.. so, I hope him well.

After the Fiat 850 (I agree - I think Mark Irwin bought it) Eddie co-drove a highly modified MG midget on 10-12" race slicks for a few years.

Pretty consistent FTD car (back when we were running 40 car events).

The person who put the SSB Citation through the fence at Chilhowee during fun runs (~1985) got out of a fun run in that MG on slicks and into the SSB Citation for his next fun run. (fast FWD SSB street tire cars understeer in ways that fast MGs on slicks generally do not)

That was the end of fun runs for a few years...

I did not see a Porsche go through the fence - but the story sounds familiar (probably happened before 1983).

Afterthought - SSB = Showroom Stock "B" road racing class - Fred Drumhellers car.

P.S.

X11 Citations (especially "cheated up" race cars) ran the quarter mile in the same time as the same year Corvettes - so they were actually pretty sporty to autocross (I know that's a little difficult for some to imagine)...

Drumheller.... lol

Had not thought of him in a while. I remember a photo sequence of his many barrel rolls at Road Atlanta were on the wall of Knoxville Motor Company...

I was thinking yesterday I didn't have that quite right.

Dan Arnold was the guy with the MG.

I think Eddie was just autocrossing stuff he was borrowing from the car lot at that point (post Fiat 850).
