Looking for tires for a C5Z
Just got a new car to come out and play with, but its on 8 year old tires. I am grabbing a set of 18x10.5 +56 square setup, but having a hard time finding tires in a reasonable size. I can have 315s on all 4 running Rival S but I don't know if that is the best setup. Will be driven to and from events, and to the dragon etc.
Any suggestions?
Also I know thread useless without pics, but its an 04 LE Z06. Looks stock lol

315 rival s are going to be a good choice.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z
Certainly nothing wider than a 315 on 10.5 inch wide rims. Even then, they may be on the edge of being pinched and you might have to run higher than expected tire pressures. That's what I ran on my Mustang last year with 10.5 inch wide rims. AS Corvette's run 275 front tires on 9.5 inch rims, but they're a bit lighter. The load range on the BFG 275/35/18 Rival S is only 87W with a max load of 1201 lbs compared to 91W and 1356 lbs max for the 315's.

Corvettes also run 315's on 9.5 inch rims

Yeah looks like that's what I will end up with, I would prefer a 295 square setup but they just don't exist for the Rival.

According to John Smith, the 315's on 9.5 inch rims don't work as well as the 275's.
Corvette guys in AS tried the 315 on the 9.5" and it was too unresponsive and went slower.

335s fit the rears just fine as well.
As far as the bigger fronts, not sure about the side wall flex in street tires, but the 315 in Hoosier tires is slightly sloppy in quick transition elements, but sweepers love it.

That's what I have heard, that they "fall over" but I think the extra width will make up for it VS a 275

Hoosiers tolerate pinching much better than 'street' tires.but the 315 in Hoosier tires is slightly sloppy in quick transition elements, but sweepers love it.
IIRC, recent model Corvettes have 12 inch wide rear wheels, which is what you want for 335 section tires.

I'm running 335 rival s on 11 inch rims and it does very well with the right air pressure, stretching the tire isn't always the best way to go.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z
Neither is pinching always the best way to go. According to the specs at Tire Rack, an 11 inch rim is in the center of the 10.5-11.5 inch rim width range for the 315 tire. The 335 rim range is 11.5-12.5 inches. I put two of my old 315 tires on my new 12 inch rims on the front at the last event last year and really liked the much quicker response than when they were mounted on my old 10.5 inch rims.
Speaking of which, is anyone interested in a set of Enkei PF01 18x10.5 inch rims with a Ford 5 lug bolt pattern? I bought them used so I'll sell them for even less, assuming the 12 inch Forgestar's work out for me.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z
No its not Dewitt but I don't care what tire rack says, I have run them on 11 and 12 inch rims and I KNOW which is better and it is the 11 no ifs ands or buts about it.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z
Yeah the 315 on the 10.5 is super common on the C5. There are plenty of 11 inch wheels out there and yet the majority rock the stock rears all around and still go fast. I'm all about not stretching tires I like a little "balloon" action. Ran 255s on my 8" wheels and really liked how they felt.

Re: Looking for tires for a C5Z
Not anyone at the pointy end of the field with a bfg rival S. They do it with hoosiers, but that's entirely different.
I think every single person with a 275 rival S front tire in AS has the biggest complaint being how vague and unresponsive the tire is which makes the cars hard to place precisely. Putting a wider rival S tire on that wheel on the AS corvettes in the front does not make them any faster or easier to drive. There is a reason nobody puts a 315 on the front anymore.
The rear wheels on the C6z06 is 12" and the 335 does well. I don't know how that would do on a 10.5 or 11" rear wheel, but most c5z06 guys seem to put a 315 on the back if they stick with the rival S. I'd probably use the re-71r if I had a c5z06.
In CAM-S with a 10.5 or 11" front wheel the 315 does wonders for the front end I hear, but it's not an option in street.

Yeah running CAM-S and got the 315s mounted up last week. Hopefully the weather holds for the 25th.
