Gimmie some info on Miatas.

Post by thrdeye »

So anyway. I was just kidding about the Sky.

I need some info on 94-97 Miatas. I can't fit in the 2nd gens.

1 - What are some common problems to look out for?
2 - Are the Type R Miatas excluded from STS2? I am thinking they have a torsen.
3 - How much should I pay for one? (The Miatas on autotrader that I have found are WAY more expensive than I figured).
4 - None have ABS?
5 - Power Steering??
6 - Do you really give up anything going to a pre-94 model (those are 1.6L?)

April Fools?

Although, I think it is sharp, and they are going to offer a performance model.

I won't have it for another month or so. Apparently, they are hard to come by.

I'll make sure I test drive that one pretty good before you pick it up!

They're nice cars but I'd wait for the Chevy version which will have a better engine and more aggressive styling, rumored to be called Stingray

I admit it looks great. I am still ticked off at them for dropping the Fiero. They finally got it right with the V6 model and them dropped it.

Wow, that was fast! Yesterday you guys were kicking the idea around of a use miata. I like that a lot better than the Solstice.

Head on over to miata.net. There's a used Miata shopping guide that'll help a ton. As for the difference in the 1.6 vs 1.8 models, the 1.6 cars are usually lighter and have 4.30 diff as opposed to 4.10. Another advantage to the earlier models is the VLSD. This is legal in STS2 while the Torsen isn't. If you want the later model, the fewer the options the better. An easy rule of thumb is 5-speed + cruise = Torsen. For the 1.6 years, don't get in a hurry and you can find them under $2000. Later models will go up to as much as $8000 depending on condition of course. Hope this helps any, I wouldn't mind growin' the field in STS2 some since Rife can't seem to help himself to driving everybody else's car.

Thanks for the info. By earlier models with the viscous you mean 90-94?

With the amount of prep I have put into the Scoob, it would still be my primary ass-hauler. But if I ever wanted to run STS2, or have some fun out of town, I would like the car to be a good fit.
