Bele Chere 7/29

Post by TedV »

I was talking with some of the North carolina folks today, and the Bele Chere street autocross is coming up on the 29th in Asheville. Stu mentioned posting a reminder... here's your post. Put on by the http://highlandssportscarclub.com/ the course pavement is a 5 lane road in downtown Asheville. I could make a few calls and get more info if anyone is interested. The time I ran there, it was offsets and slolom to a pivot cone at the bottom of the hill, then back up to the top.

About how long is it to the site? I was guessing around 2 hours.

What is the road condition like?

Yeah, Shawn, it's about 2 hours. I drive that route a lot and it is fun going through the "55" MPH zone on I40 at 90+.

I talked to Steve Eckrich. and he said the pavement is pretty good, not broken up, and not a tire eater. Street event so no novices. There is curbing all along it, but they don’t use the outside lanes, just center 3 lanes. Course runs about 40 to 50 seconds. Less than 100 cars we might get 4 runs, but they usually have over 100 so usually 3 runs. Since it is a street, just offsets and slaloms, and the turn around is a wall of cones with 2 openings. If you blow the turn around brake zone, the far wall is a hundred feet beyond, so all it will cost you is time. Schedule says registration and tech open at 8, but Steve said they are usually there earlier, maybe closer to 7am. If you are late to registration n tech, there is always next year. First car is at the line and running at 10am sharp.

Is the course that long? I looked at last years results and the times seem to be in the low 30 second range.

I wondered about that time too, just repeating what Steve said. He might have thought I was still in a 90 hp VW

I'll probably go anyway. The wife's having a friend in from out of town that weekend so Atlanta is the last place I want to be.

Nope. She knows how I feel about this friend anyway. When my wife said she was coming I immediately told her I was going out of town. :D
