Number theory
With few exceptions (coughTony the Tigercough), it's not obvious what significance people's car numbers have, if any. Someone who likes to go first might pick a low number, and someone who likes to go last might pick a high number--but two-driver cars mix things up a bit.
So how did you pick your number? Does it have some deep, personal significance? Was it random? Strategic? The last one on the shelf?

Dave, you can't ask that question and not put your answer out there too.
My number came through a series of strange occurrances. Roe Lyle got new numbers for his car and gave me his old ones. He gave me four threes and two ones. Being an Earnhardt fan, I wanted to be number three but we used to assign permanent numbers at that time and Sherman Kouns got the number three before I did. I figured 33 would be the next best thing. Also, 3+3=6 which was the number on my BMX bike when I raced it.
Aren't you happy you know all that now?

When it was time to buy numbers, I didn't want to worry about other people choosing my number, so I wanted something with a 6 or a 9 in it. My favorite baseball player when I was a kid, Dave Parker, wore #39, so that's what I started using.
I plan to buy new numbers for next year, so I might try something else.

I just did. Actually, I just picked a couple digits mostly randomly--except I chose 9 because it could be flipped to 6 in case of conflict. Then, from the available combinations (26, 29, 62, 92) I picked 29 for no good reason.MARKP wrote:Dave, you can't ask that question and not put your answer out there too.
Hey, this is important stuff...Aren't you happy you know all that now?

Mine started as my age when I started racing(31) then my HS #(39) when I got a permanent number but when I rolled two cars in one yr, Debbie wanted me to change numbers so I went with my age at the time(36) then because I was racing only a few times a yr someone more active and successful was given that # and I was given a similar number(26) but that number wasnt available for the SpecMiata so I asked for an easy number to modify if necessary(06).
