270K miles plus on the TDi Jetta and the rear main seal wasn't leaking. Synthetic does a motor good. Rotella-T 15-40 synth. since I've owned it 135K miles.
I do put diesel in it, bio-diesel, power service additive, some ATF in a pinch. Oh, that's in the fuel tank, not the motor oil. Never used kerosene

The end-all, be-all alternative is a '99-'00 head swap, which has solid lifters.
You might consider heavier oil, too. The 5W-30 recommendation is pretty highly debated among enthusiasts...I was running 15W-40 in mine.
pfft my 00 head ticks more than my 97 head did haha.
only ticks when its cold, once its warm its good to go. my 97 really didnt have the normal miata tick, kinda odd but i wasnt complaining.

Brake booster line into the engine! The can also has clear-cut directions (16 ounces per 18 gallons of fuel, 1/3 can into the oil, 1/3 into the vacuum hose), but feel free to modify the amounts as you feel necessary.01badz28 wrote:Which procedure produces the most smoke? Also be sure to have two people, as sucking up too much will cause the engine to bog. Someone needs to be inside the car keeping the revs up.
By the way, type ['99-'00 miata head swap] into Google. Click the first result.
Do you do have HLAs?pfft my 00 head ticks more than my 97 head did haha.

haha, i swear i was the first newb brave enough to ask all those questions about the swap.
no HLAs, not that noisy, goes for 2-3 sec after a very cold startup.
i order MSPnP, should fix some of my problems. like flame shooting, lower mileage, and funky idle. altho that might just be the tps :-\.
jarrard, ive still got my 97 head that didn't tick! but i agree, if your guna be playing with a swap in the miata ditch the 1.8, gogo ls1!

I like the way you think - I wish my LS1 had dropped a valve so I had an extra engine to play with.
