Need info re: 2005 V6 Eclipse transaxle removal

Post by DickCDawg »

A friend is trying to replace the clutch on his 2005 Elclipse; he already has axle shafts out, periperherals disconnected, etc. He also has all the external transaxle to bellhousing bolts out, and can crack open the joint at the bottom of the tranaxle/bellhousing. There appears to be something else still bolted at the top 12 o'clock position. There is a dowel pin around the 11 o'clock position when looking toward the flywheel, but we don't think it's the obstacle. There's a raised area of casting in both the bell housing and transaxle at the 12 o'clock spot that looks suspiciously like the place for another bolt, but we can clearly see that there isn't one with the head on the transaxle side of the joint. We can feel inside the bell housing through a small hole and think we're feeling the 14-17 mm hex head of a bolt near 12 o'clock, but I'm not totally sure this is an 'inside the bellhousing to transaxle bolt'. Even if it is, there's no apparent way to get a wrench or socket inside to remove it through the small bell housing hole.

We need to know if this 'inside the bellhousing bolt' is real, and what the trick to removing it might be.

Any help from someone who's done a V6 Eclipse clutch or has a better resource that the Haynes book will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dick H.
