Car trouble!

Post by MP5_57 »

Well everyone......41000 miles later my car finally breaks!!! This is the first problem ive had with my Protege 5. The car is making a very loud clicking sound on the intake camshaft side of my engine. It only does it under acceleration. I have no idea what it is.

Anyway, im taking it to the service department tomorrow to see what they have to say! Wish me luck everyone! I am still under warranty for 9000 more miles, so thats a good thing.

Does anyone know what the problem could be??

Thanks
J

The BP motors were known to have noisy HLA's and you may just have one that is sticking(but I do know also that your motor is derived from the 2.3 motor in the 626/6, not the BP). Not very good quality in them either. Brand new one's have been known to be as noisy and sticky as 100k HLA's. Traditionally you just change the viscosity of oil but you may have one that is extreme. YMMV

Sounds like they're screwed since it is still under warranty.

I sure hope Mazda gets their s##t together. I like their cars but it seems like they have had some reliability issues over the past several years. VW had those problems in the late 80's and early 90's and it really hurt their sales.

Any idea what caused it?

And yeah, shouldn't that be covered under powertrain warranty?

Hmmm Unless they can cite to something specifically that you have done, I would think that they are responsible for the repair under the warranty if it is still applicable for time/mileage. Remind them that they have 30 days to fix it under the Lemon Law or buy it back.

oh... cool.

that still sux `bout the #2 cylinder. I think a similar problem rears its head on the Subaru engines once power/boost/timing reaches a certain point. I thought it was #3 on the EJ20 running lean, but I'm not certain.

not to point fingers, but were any mods involved with the `5 going south?
