wilwood brake ?

Post by thewelder »

I changed my 15 year old brake fluid out of my car and when I was done I took a pad out so I could order some new ones. I forgot about it and after I was done cleaning up I started pushing in my brake pedal with one pad out. When I noticed it I tried to push the piston back and couldn't get it to move. Even with the bleeder open. Does it have screw in pistons? If not what is the trick. Chad

From what I read on their site, they should just push back. I will try again maybe Tuesday. Chad

I've heard of pistons coming out of calipers when you do that. You want to be careful pushing it back in or it'll be out of alignment and screw everything up.

As for it being a screw in caliper, all the ones I've ever seen have had a pretty wild pattern on the piston (for the tool to lock into to screw them back in)

Yup. Make sure the piston is square in the bore. Possibly some corrosion or gunk farther out the bore causing the piston seal to roll up and wedge itself.

On my Wilwood BSL6 calipers the pistons just push in.

I always use an old pad and a c-clamp....is that how you got it to budge?

It wasn't square in the bore. Once I squared it up it went right in. I did use a small c-clamp to push it back. Chad

This is how I do it with my Wilwood calipers on the vette. Hard to push in by hand.
