Another which tire question
Another which tire question
So i loved the Z1 star specs in 2011, but i decided to drop the 18" and go with 17"s (i think i even started out on 19" last year... boy did i learn). My RPF1s came in today and made me all fuzzy inside but tire selection isnt as good in the 17s. I plan on running a square tire/square wheel setup on a 9.5 wheel.
Heres what i tabled out:
Dunlap Star Specs 255/40 200 193 772
Hankook RS3 255/40 140 134 536
Hankook Z214 275/40 R 202 808
Kumho Ecsta XS 275/40 180 187 748
Kumho V710 275/40 R 287 1148
Cooper RS3-S 275/40 300 177 708
Nitto NT-01 275/40 100 215 860
Nitto NT-05 275/40 200 170 680
Toyo R888 275/40 R 232 928
Toyo R1R 275/40 100 218 872
Toyo RA1 275/40 R 230 920
Now i concidered going R comp, dropping STM, and running my BSP, but i did plan on doing a couple HPDE on these tires and they would go pretty quick.
Now i loved the Star Specs and the RS-3 would be an equal tire but i have all this wheel and have no reason to not go with 275s. (No 275/40/17s in Z1s or RS3)
Ultimately that leaves 3 tires i dont know too much about.
Kumho XS
Cooper Zeon RS3-S (new tire that i have heard alot of hype over but nothing official to back it up)
The NT-05 i know was once a top dog but is it still up to par with these younger tires?
the NT-05 is what i have set in mind as of now unless someone could back something else up.

Re: Another which tire question
edit:... just realize i could get a star spec in 265 and they are apparently they are a very generous 265
I was looking around and i couldn't find it, but i have once seen some national results that also had thier tire brands listed. Anybody have any links to something recent results.

I think you would be disappointed with the NT05s, IMHO.
You could get the 255s and come play in STR this season!
I'd vote for the 265 Z1s though.

I'm a widest tire kind of guy. From there, price, tread rating make the final decision. I say 275! What type of vehicle?

Re: Another which tire question
i agree with you here - thus I would say no to the R-Comps for track days. Not worth the cost to wear ratio, to me.Guilty1s wrote:Now i concidered going R comp, dropping STM, and running my BSP, but i did plan on doing a couple HPDE on these tires and they would go pretty quick.

He's catless, so technically not STR legal.flier129 wrote:I think you would be disappointed with the NT05s, IMHO.

265 Star Specs does sound like your best bet.

Re: Another which tire question
want my used 315s for fitment tests?
Back to the subject at hand, I would also like some feedback on the tires listed. I'm also in the area to buy some 275s soon, and they will also be used for track days. I only have used Kuhmo's and some used Nittos that were on the camaro when I bought it.

I don't think 350z's are STR legal anyway. as the R stands for roadster does it not?flier129 wrote:I think you would be disappointed with the NT05s, IMHO.

I thought the R stood for ricer. 350Z is definitely legal.

Re: Another which tire question
What size wheels are the tires going on? If they're more than 9" wide, that's another reason to not worry about keeping the tires STR legal.

Re: Another which tire question
Here's my thought ... but probably not very meaningful:
Autocross STM class -> Star Specs
Autocross BSP class -> Hoosier A6
Track day -> Hoosier R6
A good compromise -> R888
I did a mix of things last year on R888's and did reasonable in all... of course this all reminds me that I need to start making the same decisions about this year ... tires ... etc.

Re: Another which tire question
won't swear to it... but I think the z was added to the STR even though it's not a roadster ... someone with more time could look it up in the CF that passes for the SCCA rule bookAcuraAttack wrote:I don't think 350z's are STR legal anyway. as the R stands for roadster does it not?flier129 wrote:I think you would be disappointed with the NT05s, IMHO.

Re: Another which tire question
Eric, I have some Hoosier A6's (315/35-17's) that I've used this past year... they are pretty used up but would make good track day tires and would last you for a little while. I have no use for them and really just need to get rid of them. I have two sets that I'll sell for $200 if you're interested.
