What in the world. I have been under the impression that I would have to get a new helmet for months now! At the same time that's some egg on the face it's nice to know I can put more towards tires this season.

If SA2015 and M2015 helmets had been available in early 2015, that would have been correct. But they weren't. I think this is actually old news. If I weren't feeling miserable from a cold or something, I'd go back the the Fastrak SEB archives for 2015 and see when it was published.

the 2000 ruling came out in a recent FastTrack ... so none of us knew this until recently

As far as track days, check the sanctioning organization for HPDE (NASA) or PDX/track night (SCCA) rules. Open face and M are allowed for HPDE and PDX. You don't need a fire suit, extinguisher, roll bar, Hans or harness either, but NASA does preach the value of each in mandatory classroom sessions.
