New Wheel Reconmendations

I'm currently looking at new wheels for the Corvette. I've almost committed to three piece forged American Racing Wheels. I was hoping someone may have some experience with their stuff and can let me know if they would recommend them. I'm also looking at Forgeline, but the price is kind of giving me sticker shock. I know Dave and Joey have had bad luck with Forgestar so I've kept away from them. Any other brands I should be looking at?

I have 2 sets of forgestar and I have not had any problem with mine and would recommend forgestar from Sam at stranoparts.com for your corvette needs.

If you plan on daily driving them, I'd be very cautious. Since you're going into the purchase knowing there are possible issues, definitely talk to your vendor about that up front so that you have a plan if you end up with a bad one. There have been more issues than just Dave and Joey.

Whatever you get unless you go pick them up.. the biggest issue I see with wheels.. is UPS/Fed-X.
Them MFrz throw them as far as they can! the boxes are shit wrecked.. and the inner liners/foam is usually destroyed.
Id do like Harp says and make a plan of what to do and how fast it happens in case of problems.

If you get them from Strano, you'll have no recourse if you receive a bad wheel. You'll just be out the money and end up paying for 5 wheels

well... unless its a manufacturing issue, the seller doesnt really have that liability. (thats what Insurance is for on shipping). I have heard that they only do it once.

NOw, depending on the buyer and the seller relationship... they can opt to get the buyer another.. or more if need be.

All the cases I know of were manufacturing errors, including the one Strano sold.

Yep. Lots of wheels get shipped. I doubt the UPS drivers union has a specific vendetta against Forgestar lol.

True but the wheels are drop shipped from the factory to the buyers house and not from a seller. Sam doesn't have the wheels sent to his shop and then to the buyer.

Last 3 people from ETR with Corvettes got bent wheels, so someone is about due a straight set.

I would bet that they got bent during shipping.

True, but he's selling and profiting from it. He's obligated to make sure his customers get what they pay for. In this case, that's useable wheels. I'm not here to bash, just inform people that since there's such a high a likelihood of getting a bad product from Forgestar, you don't want to buy from a dealer that won't take care of you, when you could buy from one that will.

Talk to the guys that got the bad products. The type of defect definitely wasn't shipping. Also, if that were the case, there would be all different brands affected. All I've heard lately is Forgestar.

.Bottom line: Whatever the cause of the defect, the guy who bought from Strano got 4 wheels, but had to pay for 5. The guy who bought from another retailer (Speedway?) had the same exact problem, but at the end of the day, he had 4 good wheels and only paid for 4. Make of that what you will. As I said before, I'm not here to bash, and I hate that I've obviously offended some people, I'm just trying to save ETR folks some money and frustration. If I was in the market, I'd want one of you to do the same for me.

Hope your right Steve. Just got a set delivered a couple weeks ago. They look good from what I can see. Fixing to get tires mounted next week.
