Re: CAM Classes suck. Why would anyone want to be in one?
I assume that Eric and all the SM/SSM types are speaking from the perception that "nobody" will run the class and not implying that only the people that have currently built R-comp and slick cars are the only true competitors in the sport and the only ones capable of developing cars. I'm pretty confident that the Karwans and Whiteners and Lugods of the world could prep a car for this if they choose to do so.
What is interesting to me is how far you can push a street tire car past STU/STR/STX speeds. Most of the top ST cars could pretty easily drop weight, add power, and add aero and probably easily find a quantifiable amount of time.
It isn't like CAM where you take a car that doesn't put down power, then make it stiffer and add a bunch of power, and struggle to go faster than stock.

Yeah. CAM doesn't make any sense.

Nah... you have to cover for people that want to run Supras n stuff. Minimum weight 3200 lbs. [emoji1787]

Re: CAM Classes suck. Why would anyone want to be in one?
No. What I am saying is it's going to take the level of prep/or greater than we currently have....and if people aren't willing to do that and run Hoosiers....they aren't going to be willing to do it and run street tires.
EVERYONE that I have seen advocate for this class are people who want a place to run their boosted car that wouldn't have been competitive in SM.
Think about putting 345s on all 4 corners of a 1000 hp GTRs that has 300,000 invested and a few championships behind it and you will get an idea what would dominate the class.
If it comes about, it will not work out like everyone thinks it will.
It will be dominated by AWD cars that are already very developed for the class.

Re: CAM Classes suck. Why would anyone want to be in one?
Its drastically different..... other than Madarash....there arent many people running at the pointy end in cars they had already developed before CAM was created. There wasnt a "domestic dominated SM like class" to pull from.
Think about 10-15 Marks showing up in cars that are already developed.
This isnt a group of good ole boys with a set of weld draglites and some 2 chamber flows on a fox body....these are people with 6 figure investments and who will be looking for a place to play with them
But we'll see.

For it to work as I envision, it would be split amongst classes like CAM (AWD, RWD, FWD, heavy, light, whatever) and have weight limits that let people run desirable cars.eunos735 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2019 8:15 am No. What I am saying is it's going to take the level of prep/or greater than we currently have....and if people aren't willing to do that and run Hoosiers....they aren't going to be willing to do it and run street tires.

How much faster do you think your car would be than Karwan was in STR on a 60 second course? How about when you add aero and maybe 20% power and drop some weight on the STR car?

Re: CAM Classes suck. Why would anyone want to be in one?
At Nationals
STR went 127.070
Same generation Miata went 124.285 in BSP.
SSM winner went 119.435.....and was 500lbs heavier than either of them and streetable enough to run 1 lap of America
So race tires and BSP prep are worth 3.2 seconds. So I'm guessing the STR car would be about 5 seconds off the pace in C.U.M. vs current SM/SSM cars.
Current BSP level cars would still be 2 or 3 seconds off pace
I will say this until someone proves me wrong.
If you arent willing to work hard enough to win SM on Hoosiers, you aren't going to be willing to do it to win on 200 TW tires.

I'm a known "Hoosier-hater" but yeah, if you can build the car to work the tire properly (i.e. not stock classes) then they really do make sense

Re: CAM Classes suck. Why would anyone want to be in one?
If they introduce additional classes they need to remove that many if not more.
C.U.M. would totally be dominated by current XP/SSM cars on street tires. Has the SEB actually announced anything in regards to this, I haven't kept up with Fastrack.
