I used to shit around up there by myself, but this would be a cool lot. Pleanty of parking, and a nice lot on the interstate side. Pretty cool IMO. What do you guys think?

Let me guess...your new to the club...right?
We have used the lot for about 3 years...but have not this year due to re paving and a mid course elevation drop....
We will be back up there next year maybe.

The last Smokies event was my second autocross ever.
To elaborate on what John said: Half of the pavement was pretty nice, the other half was somewhat rough, texture-wise. The biggest issue was the transition between the two which was about a 1-in drop (or bump if you're going uphill).
If I'm honest, it didn't bother my car much at all, with stock ride height, and not the lowest profile tires. I actually enjoyed the course there quite a bit. We had a b-mod car that ran and had some issues bottoming out. I don't remember if Ted had his c-mod out there or not (My second event ever, so I didn't know anyone at the time), but the main thing was the _mod cars and a couple of the really lowered street cars scraping/bottoming on the transition.

Uh, it is so bad that the solo committee elected not to run there again until and if the bad section gets repaved. If I remember correctly 2-3 cars broke something the last time we used the site. The drop-off from the new to old pavement is bad for low cars, but a bigger issue is the bumps that are in the old pavement. Many folks have said they will not run there again.
Just using the good section is just too small to have much fun without doing a two lap course, and then we have a hard time handling a large number of drivers.
The last time I spoke to the fellow in charge, they wanted $1,000 per day. I got the feeling they would negotiate some, but most likely no lower than $600 if that.

We did run there last year on only the good portion with the Run Through the Hills guys:scottgib wrote:Uh, it is so bad that the solo committee elected not to run there again until and if the bad section gets repaved. Before everyone thinks that it was a bunch of stockish muscle cars rolling around, it was mostly a bunch of fairly stiff pro touring cars.
We only ran the good pavement, got in five runs apiece, shoot out for the top ST guys, fun runs, burnout contest, and group picture all before leaving at 5:00. Participation was limited to 50 cars.
I'm sure the course may seem fairly simple, but I didn't hear any complaints, and it can be done.
