PCA Sept 10th event is cancelled

Post by EliseAutoXr »

Apparently the City of Rockwood decided to use the parking lot without contacting it's owner. They are doing fundraising for hurricane victims...

Ya, I agree, I don't mind it cancelled so much (since it was for a good reason) but the fact that the City sorta just commendeered the lot without telling anyone  ...

Yeah, that doesn't make much sense to me how they can do that. I hope the city of Knoxville doesn't decide to have a fund-raiser in my living room this afternoon.

So was it taking up the entire lot?

As early as we arrive at events, I think ETR coulda beat the fundraisers to the site :!:

I wonder if they're going to make more money for the Katrina victims than the PCA would have with the autocross at $20 a driver.

I agree it sucked pretty hard, but at least it's not the PCA's fault. I'm beginning to have a bad attitude towards all Katrina efforts, but I'll save my political stance for another time. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

I saw 2 firetrucks parked in the middle of the lot.

I hope they collect more than the PCA would have, but I kind of doubt it. Rockwood is a small town, that lot isn't terribly visible from the main road, and everyone has already had several opportunities to donate large sums (payroll deduction, red cross, etc.) and/or pocket change (just about any store that you visit).

Aw man, that blows.......
I'm sure the city would like to convey the appearance of doing so in good faith........... however, being raised in this county, I somehow think that this is a politically motivated action. The efforts to raise moneys will be recorded in the local paper and names will be mentioned, some pressing of the flesh, etc....... The dollar amount raised will not be the focus of the issue.

What other events are available this weekend? It's going to be too nice to not motorvate.

I'd have been more angry at Rockwood if the event had gotten trumped by their annual hog killin' festival, or whatever it is they do out there. It's bad form the way they handled today, though.

Oh well, there's Meco coming up I suppose. PCA said they'd try to have an event in Rockwood in early November. I'll go to that, barring complications.

Porsche Club of America. The are like a small version of the SCCA (autocross and road racing) only they specialize in Porsches. Locally they have autocrosses although not as many as ETR does, and some are closed to outsiders. Most are open to anyone who can pass tech.
