It's official, I picked a good one
My fiance, that is. She is not nearly as passionate about cars as I am, but she enjoys driving sporty cars, and has an appreciation for them. And she puts up with my (at times) obsession with cars and motorcycles. It came time for her to get a new car, and check out what we got for her this morning (see below). This will be mostly a weekend and sunny day driver for her. She'll still drive her Cavalier most of the time.
2008 RX-8 40th anniversary edition. It's an awesome car. I love the way it handles. Now if I could just get her to race it.

Automatic? What's that? Yea, it's a 6MT. Neither of us have ever had anything but manual trans cars. She borrowed an auto car from someone a couple years ago, and had to call to ask which "D" to put the car in.Budman wrote:Sweet ride! Is it a manual trans? Since I live so close I'd be glad to help her learn how to abuse... er, autocross it! Thanks again for letting borrow my old spacers for a bit.

I've definitely thought about the B-stock option. That may be a possibility in the future, but I think I'm going to keep working with the Focus for at least a couple more years. I think there may be some potential in setting up the SVT Focus for ST. Hitting cones in the Focus makes me cringe a little less than hitting them in my fiance's brand new car.
I plan to get the RX-8 out to a couple of events this year. It will be on stock 280 treadwear tires.
Does anyone have an opinion about learning to autocross in a front drive car and later transitioning to a rear wheel drive? Would it be like trying to re-learn how to autocross?

Congrats! We have new rotorheads! Bring it to BS! I drove my wife's Protege earlier last year. You just have to adjust by letting the frontwheel drive car pull you through the corners and then not letting the rear wheel drive not get away from you when exiting the corners. That's what I found anyway...

Thanks again for letting me ride in yours a couple times last year. If you're at the autocross Sunday, I want to ask you a couple questions about some of the start-up and shut-off procedures that I've read about.
