where to buy used wheels for Mazda protege locally?

Post by jonam »

not related to racing but I thought I'd ask.
The wheels on my beater are bent (probably all of them)
It's a 96 Protege LX.
Is there a junk yard or something where I can buy those wheels cheap?
Thanks.

What size are they? You can get cheap (decent) alloy rims at Pep Boys for like $200 a set if they're not huge.

Thanks! They are 13" but not sure about width and off-set.
I've got one contact # regarding this but I will check out pep-boys, too
Aluminums are nice but steels are better assuming they are cheaper and stronger.

They should be able to tell you width and offset. Steelies would be cheaper and stronger, I suppose. I'm like you: Skimp on the daily driver, within reason, and pay out for the race car

One name: Lee Graser He is the godfather of all things Mazda. He cruises this board frequently although he just recently retired from TVA and may not have as much time for surfing the net. Any 4x100 wheel will fit but 42mm offset is factory spec.

So he might have wheels for my Miata? That would be pretty neat if he did.

Marshall, what wheels for Miata are you looking for? I have several extra sets from salvage cars.

My miata is a '92, so I want 14x5.5 wheels from a 90-93.

(Unless you think I would be okay to stay in stock class running the 14x6 from the 1.8. They do look better. )

You are in luck. I have two sets of early wheels and one set of 94+ wheels. I've been looking for a reason to switch out to the BBS wheels on the street car. I do believe that you can upgrade to the 14x6 M1.5 wheels since they are on the same line in the rule book but verify this for yourself.

Sorry to further hijack this thread, but technically, to stay in stock class, you have to run the same size wheels that came on the year and option package of the car you are running. Example, you can't put R package parts on a base model Miata (unless you do the complete R conversion).

Ok I guess I'll go for the old 1.6 wheels. PM me so we can figure out a price and pickup date. And return this thread to its rightful owner.

Hmmm to continue with the hijack, I have one set of 14x6 Panasports(no, they are not for sale) that came off Polly/RL Mitchell's Miata when they were running stock class. I wonder how they did it?
Marshall, I'll be contacting you soon. Got to go to court now.

I'm sure they were for their R model.

Jon,
Check the Cedar Bluff towing junk yard just off Pell Pky near Dutchtown Rd. A couple of years ago my teenager tried out the roof wheels of a '96 Protege DX with 13" steel wheels. The ones on top didn't fare too well, but the ones that were supposed to be on the asphalt weren't hurt as far as I recall. Anyway, Cedar Bluff Towing ended up with the car and maybe it's still way out in their back 40. Gold color, very modified roof line...
