Subaru Tuning at Topspeed (Cobb Stage 2)
Subaru Tuning at Topspeed (Cobb Stage 2)
So, I'm thinking of going down to TopSpeed and getting a good stage 2 tune done. Anything special I should know or do before going?

They did a great job for me. I just told him I wanted a good, but safe tune. I didn't raise the rev limiter. I think he put the boost around 18 psi.

I'm overshooting a little on boost with the off-the-shelf Stage 2 Cobb maps.
The Target is 17.5 and I'm spiking up to 19 for just a split second before it settles down. That may be normal (Cobb said it was ok), but I figured I'd get a pro to look at it and see if any more power can be gotten safely.
Trey, how long did it take them to tune yours? Do you remember who did it?

Re: Subaru Tuning at Topspeed (Cobb Stage 2)
^ Good to know. I spoke to Cicio at TS awhile back... He said roughly 2-3 hours for the typical Stage 2 tune. You'll love the car even more once you dump Cobb's map for a solid tune (or so I've been told... ). I just wish TS did flat-rate tunes instead of hourly.
Dave, how soon are you looking to go...? Ironic that you overshoot the map target just a bit. I've never been able to hit mine. It's 19 IIRC, and I top 18 periodically when I log in 3rd and 4th.

Probably sometime in February.SilverMaxima wrote:^ Good to know. I spoke to Cicio at TS awhile back... He said roughly 2-3 hours for the typical Stage 2 tune. I was overshooting the target even more before I switched to the lower wastegate duty maps. According to the .pdf associated with the Cobb map, the target is 17.5. Although, I think the pdf says two different things in the same document. Mine settles down quickly (its really only about a half second spike) and stays on a solid 17.5 until it starts tapering down towards redline.

Ah, cool. I know TopSpeed will do a slight discount if you bring at least 2 people in. If I go the built motor route, I'll probably have them tune it. Still working out the details.disneyd wrote:Probably sometime in February.SilverMaxima wrote:^ Good to know. I spoke to Cicio at TS awhile back... What Chris said.
I had 3 separate maps done, though, so if you are doing only one, it shouldn't take that long.

STU 100 Octane. Can leave it on the most aggressive cam setting all the way through the rev range.
I remember driving the car on that tune. I launched as I usually would and immediately spun the car. It was insane

In retrospect, I should have put some big race tires on that and run BSP. It would have been so fun.

I can imagine that driving your STi was pretty similar to bull riding. You had no idea where the thing was going to go but, by god, it was going to go.Dentspeed wrote:In retrospect, I should have put some big race tires on that and run BSP. It would have been so fun.
