Ditto! And if I win class the very next thing I want to know is how close was I to John Brown!!! Autocross has really brought out a viciously competitive side in me.01badz28 wrote:Different strokes. See this is part of my point of going to DSP. My car is not in the same class as yours at all if we were in prepared classes. Why would we compete in SM? Your car makes a million horsepower, and has 5x the money in it that mine has. Mine makes 200 and can't even handle that going to the tires. I'm just out there to have fun, not compete with you. I guess you could take that offensively if you were trying to compete with me, and thought our cars were even close to being in the same category, but that's the only reason I can think of. I mean surely you don't think a Shelby Cobra and a Mazda Protege should be competing, right?jcox07 wrote:Any one know what class I can run in besides sm?LOL

Re: Anybody gonna run D stock this year?
It's quality, not quantity with the class size. I won BS(now CS) open class several years ago in a lightly attended season. I was still pretty new to the sport, so that was pretty cool at the time. However, even though I was also posting very respectable PAX/RAW times, I don't exactly have that as my signature or anything because with only 3 or 4 people eligible for a championship, I only had to do a little real work, and that wasn't very exciting. I ended up doing what you do and just looking at where I was in relation to the whole (although PAX vs. RAW).
With that said, if I showed up to an event with only three people in my class, but the other two were John Brown and Rob Carpenter....if, through some cosmic alignment, I managed to win I would change my avatar to a screen shot of the results page.
So yeah, beating just one or two people can be exciting as hell and rewarding as long as it's the right one or two people.
BTW, Joe, the Surf analogy is a pretty good one from where you're coming from. I've been close to that mentality the last year or two with my class orphans, but I've missed running in situations where there's actual pressure.

Mine can't handle the 700 hp it has on our lot, but I have learned how to drive it there and use what I can. Now on the bigger lots , I can use the power as was the case this weekend at zmax, uh wait a minute, my tire warmer who has a subie and 275 hp and never driven a high hp car spanked my azz in my own car. It was the most fun I have had when I lost. Hey scooter by the way your fired!!!!!!

Funny thing is, none of the cars in SM is a true SM car. They would get destroyed if a true SM car actually showed up.

That's true, so why does Rife, or anyone else, think I should stay in SM and compete there?01badz28 wrote:Funny thing is, none of the cars in SM is a true SM car. They would get destroyed if a true SM car actually showed up.

Re: Anybody gonna run D stock this year?
The Camaro had no problem roasting R comps with only 500 or so fly wheel hp, so I can't even imagine JY's car. HP can be more of a hindrance on a tight autocross course.
Re: Anybody gonna run D stock this year?
Have to ask Rife, I don't care what you do. I don't get the point in moving out of a contested class and into an uncontested class.Knox MSP wrote:That's true, so why does Rife, or anyone else, think I should stay in SM and compete there?
Aside from that, we haven't had an autocross is a while and everyone is bored.

I'm just glad at least one person doesn't want to burn me at the stake for running my car in it's proper class.

Yeah I went to 335's on the rear and watched scooter smoke them badly as he came across the finish line and the win in a car he had never autox in. Yes the high hp is a handicrap at our course and on tight lots, but I have ran several times at zmax and other areas and won in sm, but a true pro sm would probly for sure spank me, but as I learn, I might just be the spanker not the spankeeeeeee.
