CAM PAX

Post by jcoatney »

So I was reading the "Solomatters" link Chris posted and saw the new Classic American Muscle class. It's only a regional class for 2014 but looks very interesting. My Corvette may not be to bad in a class with unrestricted engine mods and no wheel or tire size limitations, even on streets. Anybody think this class will stick around and I wonder what kind of PAX it would have.

Who can be sure, but Jr. Johnson has spent the winter building a car for it, which seems positive

National will be watching the numbers on it to see how well it does. I think it will stick in some form.

Ruleset is too open. If we wanted this to work, we should have put in the time to figure out who we want to cater to and make a ruleset that does that. I think Junior wanted/wants something that caters to older cars.

That open eh? Maybe I need to read the CAM rules. Are we talking put street tires on a vintage trans-am road race car? Or more open than that.

Thanks for not leaning on the acid dipped body. Man that sheet metal is thin. 8)

So basically it's CP cars on street tires? Like this car....

Cause that'd be scary and entertaining.

Still has to be street legal, have an interior, windows, etc. Think SM with CP suspension allowances for American RWD cars, on streets. If you haven't read the ruleset, you should. It consists of something like 5 lines or something like that.

Yeah it's not like our most open ruleset is our most popular class or anything.

:lol2:

Perfect line! I think CAM could really take off, especially in the South..... 'Muricah!

edit: wait.... isn't this THE perfect class for Rife? Big v8 car, don't have to worry about 100+ rules, regional only so no traveling, and they aren't chewing up hoosiers every 5 events.

So do the cars in CAM have to be a certain age or older?

Almost everyone that asked for this class either wanted a class for pro touring style muscle cars or pony cars. ...and the answer was a class where the easy button is a late model Corvette.
