Ladies STM class

Post by onebadbugeye »

Hey everyone,

As some of you know my wife has started getting into autocross recently and is really enjoying it. She has been encouraging other ladies to come out and give it a shot. One of the biggest concerns my wife had as well as some of the other ladies I have talked to about getting involved is that they will be "slow" and not as competitive against all the men.

So I guess my questions is would ETR be willing to have a ladies STM class if we can get some ladies to attend regularly?

You could always pitch the Novice class to them.

There are novices that run STM, but I see your point of the pax being 1.00 and thus they can't really compete against the other classes in novice.

We've got enough data that I think we should assign a reasonable PAX for the class. Something a little tougher than STU

Experience is so much more important than gender. I give her a few more events, and she will probably be beating up on any male STM newcomers. Especially in that car.

Lin is relatively new to the sport, and she would have nearly trophied in STM at the first event.

Very few people are awesome at autocross without lots of practice.

Makes sense to me to develop a PAX for STM if we limit the class to street licensed cars, and exclude XP and Modified cars that someone decided to license.
Seems to me that 0.850 would be a good place to start. JB shouldn't get paranoid about that. With an 0.8505 pax Stu would have finished last in PRO last event with a 62.8 raw.

There are other places to put the Jurassic Lemons cars.

I don't see what this accomplishes, especially if we start excluding the crazy, hard to class cars.

I don't know Steve.. I reckon it just gives the class a mix in the "pax game" :?:

I don't see a point in giving STM a pax or limiting the cars that can run in the class. I was just thinking of a way that the ladies could have a class for them self. I know that there is a "ladies" class or pax determination for most regular classes in SCCA, but there is not one for STM and due to the fact that a number of ladies will be racing in STM (hopefully soon) I thought we could give them their own class. There is also a good chance I am not making any sense

We stopped running individual ladies classes years ago and made a single Ladies pax class, similar to Pro. I think the online registration is still let up that way, but I'd have to check. However, any lady running a ladies pax STM car would be at a severe disadvantage unless we give STM a reasonable pax number.
