(Possible) new Oak Ridge site discussion
Hi there. Yesterday JY and I looked at a pretty large, but unfortunately oddly shaped piece of pavement. Below are some images that outline what would be available to us. The second image shows another space we could use for paddock and/or grid in order to access the lot from a different point.
Currently, there are curbs that will have to be dealt with before we could even run there, but this sounded like it could be taken care of from our contact there. The difficulty is that there will be limited access points in and out of the course area. Also, we will only get a slight overlap with two cars on course (if any at all). Both of these things can be dealt with, but of course, it would mean fewer runs on race day.
In that regard, I think this would be a good candidate to have a two day combined event. 3 runs each day and add em up.
Pavement quality is not bad at all, surprisingly.
Next steps are to get a few more eyes on the pavement to see if it's feasible, then go back to our contact with a map of how we would use the area and some information about insurance, etc. Course designers, please post up with your thoughts.

Looks like a mangled mess..... almost like good place for a simi-road course style like the Go cart course in Mid Tn.
How much of that place can we use?? access roads? cross-overs?? crossing the rail road tracks?????

You won't be able to cross over anything. Only the part in red could be used for course.

The road to the left of the long 120 ft wide section has been torn up and is no longer there.

I think it looks like a typical runway style course, slalom down slalom back. I think it could be workable. It wouldn't be something we could run all the time but I think two to three events per year might be fun there.
We need to get an event there and see how feasible it is after we run one.

Ah, I read that as Roane State instead of Roane County. That makes a lot more sense...

Kieran and I would be very happy there - the main site in Philly Region is Warminster Park, an old Naval airstrip that is slightly wider than this site, but very similar. Slaloms, lane changes, offsets, an occasional Chicago-box, some eye-brows, and you're done. And if the grip is good, some very fast speeds with little to hit off line.

I like the sound of that. Slaloms would be a nice changeup to the 8 years or so of 180's.Scoob wrote:Kieran and I would be very happy there - the main site in Philly Region is Warminster Park, an old Naval airstrip that is slightly wider than this site, but very similar.
