Need experienced timing volunteers
I need at least 5 experienced guys to help with timing. I need to get a roster together for the next few events. Post or PM with your name or questions. Thanks!

I should be at the next few events - minus the smokies event.. I'll be up at the Wilmington Pro Solo that weekend.

I've run timing plenty. Not much this year since they've been trying to train the newbs, but I'm around if needed.

Something to think about now. We have three laptops that I have finally gotten to where they can all be networked together. So we can have three registration lines....but this is the timing thread, sooo....
We can have one laptop be the main timing server, a second as an audit client, for logging penalties and dnfs, and another that is an announcer client that only displays data. The announcement client can be located away from the main laptop and the audit laptop so there's not a lot of noise.
What is good about this is that one person can focus on staging cars while one focus on penalties.
The announcer could be the person that handles any questions from drivers so that they leave the trailer alone.

Chris, are you thinking about doing away with the paper audit since the second audit computer is available now?

Well kind of. If we're able to figure out a way with grid to set the staging order so that it never changes, except for reruns.
Theoretically, with one person focused only on entering cars, one person entering penalties and the start line visible from the trailer, you should never miss a car, no matter what order they run in.

Sounds good to me! That should be much less hectic in the trailer.

Re: Need experienced timing volunteers
Here's a thought, give timing a list of grid spots with each car and number and where the break is and we send the cars by the grid spot number and if we have a rerun then grid radios timing that so and so number 00 will be going for a rerun in front of grid spot 12.

Re: Need experienced timing volunteers
From my time in the trailer, I just need to see the cars. If I can see the cars, order isn't a big deal.
What is a big deal to me is car numbers and especially co-driver car numbers --- people don't switch, shitty 1's, etc.

So a list with car numbers with codrivers and the order they are going to the line would not help, but a visual of the same thing does? I have not run timing but if a car goes by and you don't catch the number for some reason what do you do?

Re: Need experienced timing volunteers
I'm just saying that I personally don't care about the order. If I can see the start and the car has legible numbers, I'm probably going to have a couple of minutes to get the car number.jcox07 wrote:So a list with car numbers with codrivers and the order they are going to the line would not help, but a visual of the same thing does? edit: I don't want to be married to a list because cars are going to run out of order, unless we hold up the event. Even if we skip over a driver because they weren't ready, that will put things out of order.
