I don't mean to hijack the thread, but is a cat a requirement for ST? I've been thinking about replacing my stock exhaust but I definitely don't want to bump myself out of STX.

if the car came with one, then, yes … not sure how old a car would have to be to have been cat-less from the factory … late '60's ????

I think cats were required in new cars effect 1975. Maybe?

As far as ST, there are some allowances regarding aftermarket cats, but I don't know them offhand.

Federal regs did not specify cats. Car manufacturers chose that route to meet the regs. The oldest car I have seen a cat on with my own eyes was 1978 model.

My 1975 Nova had a cat but my 1979 Scirocco didn't.

Please don't confuse our STM rules with SCCA National ST rules. STM is a local only class that is basically run what you brung with 140tw street tires.

I tend to forget that foreign cars existed before around 1988 or so.

This might be changing as well. I have yet to hear if we are going to be able to continue 140tw tires or not.

It was discussed at the monthly meeting that not many showed up to. Board/member discussion meetings are 1st Tuesday of the month and at Calhoun's Turkey Creek for a while. While it is not official, it looks to be 2015 will be a transition year as the 140's get worn out and the manufactures change the arbitrary 140 on their tires to the new 200 # they pull from marketing.
