Is all of STM making the migration to 200tw tires this year?

Post by 90civichb »

I am seeing a bunch of the pro dudes and other street class guys selling their tires and a bunch of STM still has their newish 140tw on. I would love for the class to continue using 140tw for next year. I have talked to numerous people that run STM consistently and they all want to keep their tires or be able to run 140tw. So if we, as a class, agreed to running the 140 and/or 200 stuff, is that going to cause a issues?

That's the way Im hearing it.. I think it needs to be put in the STM rules in black and white.

Lots of folks gonna be getting some good deals on real good tires!

I personally like the idea of the class going to 200+. Then again I run 200tw tires. Perhaps I'm a bit biased.

IMO since STM is a local class only, we can make the rules on it. I see no reason to change STM to 200tw for 2015, maybe 2016 since they're probably won't really be any 140tw out there.

I guess the committee needs to get together and put it on paper. Might be worth getting the vast majority of STM competitors to come to the meeting when that's being discussed/voted on.

Id imagine.. that if it goes thru that 140 stays in the class for 2015... whoever gets the 140 tires early, gets the EASY BUTTON for next year. Im wondering how many of the 140 tires will remain on the market... :?: and at what cost??

I don't think there's gonna be much difference at the top. I think there are probably behavior differences between tires, but as far as outright speed...I'm not so sure

I don't think there is any difference in speed. Plenty of people chose higher treadwear tires over sub 200 tires nationally this year.

nobody in a Mazda did.. with reason.

unless they were braindead.. when it comes to selling tires to STM, the Miata or a CRX is really the only 2 capable of gains from the tire.. and last I looked.. there were no CRX's in STM

wait.. is Luttrell guilty of above stated comment???

That only proves that people stuck with what is proven and familiar.

That only proves that people stuck with what is proven and familiar. So let me get this right they are proven to be better and faster, but the 200 tw tires that sts peeps ran were just as good and fast, yet at nationals no one was on the 200 tw at the end of the event and only 2 tried them. UMMMM most not have been as fast because contingencies would have been paid if the other 200 tw tires were run and they had won!

A few years ago, STS and STC were pretty split between the Hankooks and the Toyos. Hollis ran the Hankooks the year that he really wanted to win, then ran Toyos the next year for contingency purposes. Motonishi was beating people on the dual compound 225 Toyos and Frank was beating people on the Bridgestones. People gravitated to the Toyos because of contingency, the good cold and wet weather performance, and because the top drivers were on them.

In the last couple of years, the Rivals, Federals, and Hankooks have gone just as fast, but people are scared to run tires other than the Toyos at Lincoln.

These tires have turned into these mythical creatures and that simply isn't the case. It is a good, versatile tire that is fun to drive. That's it. The world isn't ending without R1R's in ST.
