Toyo Proxis R1R Replacements

Post by 01badz28 »

Has Toyo announced their replacement street tires yet? A search of Tire Rack only revealed the outgoing 140 tw offerings, and I could of sworn someone mentioned that Toyo just got their new tires approved.

I looked at the Hankooks, but the biggest size they offer in a 17 is a 245, while Toyo did offer a 275 in the outgoing street tire. I'd like to stick with 315s, but that would appear to require a step up to 18" wheels, which I am completely unwilling to do at this time.

Those Toyos are ruff on big cars. Make mince-meat of that tread pattern.

If they make a new tire, it may be totally different. For instance, the RS3's went from a tire that required a lot of heat to a tire that easily overheats.

The PT / Good Guys folks swear by the BFG rivals, but they have the same problem as the toyos: the biggest size they make in a 17 is a 255.

I'm resigned to the fact I may have to bite the bullet and move up to 18" wheels, I just don't want to - especially not before I figure out if I like this whole street tire thing.

The new Toyo will not look anything like the current tire per inside info.
In addition, most sizes (all) will be one compound like the notorious 195.

I think the only 315 17" 200tw ST tire is an NT05 and doubt they'd be all that fast.

Well I've been looking and think I found some thing. A product called Wrappers. You take a used set of tires and put them on.Most of us have a set in the garage or side yard. They come in a 4 pack and only need rolled around the used tire. The ribbed design gives them better traction and good for about 13 runs per pack.Instructions say no lube needed and poss slippery when wet.$39.41 per set for common tires.and $48.91 on bigger tires.

Thanks, but I'm going to pass on wheels right now. I want to see if i actually like running street tires first, plus I'm sure there will be alot of new tires coming out in the next few months.

If I have to go 18s, I'll probably break down and get a custom set made. May have to with the Porsche brakes anyway.
