helmets

Post by joker717 »

I'm looking for someplace local to get a helmet. My son turned 12 last month and will be riding with me some during next season. So I need someplace where he can try on helmets since I have no idea what size he would wear

Make sure it has a recent Snell rating of M or SA -- ie SA2010 or ...

The motorcycle shop on Topside off the Pellissippi has fair assortment.

I have bought three helmets from Cycle Gear on North Peters Road (right next to Cedar Bluff Road and Puleo's). Just make sure you get a Snell rated helmet since they sell several that are not Snell rated.

I think the rule is helmets are good for 10 years from the Snell date....ie mine is a Snell SA2005 and will only be good for this season 2015. I will need to get a newer Snell approved helmet in 2016. I'm I correct on that?

The 2005's will be good until the 2020's come out.

With that said, I guess I should clarify. I have an M2000. There is something in a Fastrack that those will be good for the '15 season because the SA2015's weren't out yet. Is that right?

It is the current rating plus the TWO previous ratings, so the 2005's will be good until the 2020's come out. 2015's are supposed to be on sale in Oct.

Here we go...

http://www.solomatters.com/street_categ ... s_for_2015
Rule 4.3.1 requires that Snell rated helmets meet the latest or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards. The 2015 standard helmets will not be available for sale until October 2015, so Snell rated helmets meeting the Snell SA or M standards for 2000, 2005, and 2010 will remain compliant for Solo use in 2015." Both of these updates will be in the next Fastrack.
