Autocross Attendance Down

Post by Gen52SS »

I was looking at some numbers from us as well as other regions attendance based on first 2 events 2014 vs 2015. Some only have had one event others just having their first event. On average looks like a 25% to 40% drop off in attendance for everyone except Kentucky. Is this something to be concerned about? Is it just to early to look at these numbers? Can't be gas prices, weather, economy, newbies have no interest?

Too many variables and too few samples to draw a conclusion.

After 3 events and a couple national tour events, we can judge better then if we are down as well as other regions are down on numbers.

in my case it's been conflicts with other things I wanted to do

I think we should at least consider some type of advertising. 95% of people around here have no idea we do this. I think a billboard or radio ad would pay for itself in a couple events. A TV commercial would be even better.

WOW, don't get to excited, we need a site capable of having 150 or more at each event before we can have that many at an event.

We're 3 days out from Event 2 and we only have 54 people registered. Last event, we had 90 something registered online and only 72 showed up.

IMO, this is usually a product of weather. Anything less than ideal and most folks, especially the green ones, get scared off. That being said, we've advertised all over FB, even in places like the much loved "Knoxville Car Enthusiasts" page and people still dont come out. I agree with JB though, that we need a larger site to accomodate more than 100 people. Those events last season, while great for the club, suck in practice. Due in part to all the chaos. not to mention, for those that it matters most to, more people=less runs, more potential for snafus that cause delays, etc. but as i said, i really think weather is the biggest factor for most.

Numbers were high last year.

Event #1 was a reschedule and I think we had ice the Thursday before. I'm not sure what is up with #2, but I bet numbers pick up to around 70.

70-80 is a good number.

3 groups.. good worker count.. 6 runs possible

This is my point Steve. .if numbers pick up to 70 we had 99 at our second event last year making attendance fall into that 25% less factor. I guess if numbers are there to break even or make the club a few $$$ everyone is happy. I'm guessing then like JB said 75 is a good number? 100 at every event too many. ..50 not enough. Just looking like a problem every region is dealing with. ..let's see what happens after a few events are in the books.

Lots of the first event no shows were signed up to lock in the class and car number for the year. Weather sucked too. Personal life issues are preventing me from making the first 2 events.

Event 3, the SEDivisional looked to be my first event until the grate issue came up. I will recon and measure the depth before I say I won't make that event. :fight: Chris and I both ran over the dip in my green-machine death trap with the kart tires on the back. We survived.

+1

And to those not in the know, that particular FB group is a knoxville-local group of TEN THOUSAND people who consider themselves "car enthusiasts". I put it in quotes because 95+% of them don't know their ass from their elbow. And always, always, with all the shit talking that goes down, NO ONE that I know of has ever shown up to autoX even though I've seen pretty much every event posted by either rife, sykes, lucas, andrew, etc.

Agreed on the sentiment that no advertising other than word of mouth to friends or good people is necessary unless attendance truly dips into numbers so low that the course cannot be adequately worked or the club is actually losing too much money to make budget.
