Event #2 in the Books
Event #2 in the Books
Surprised nobody's posted anything yet so I will. Thanks Jim.... I want to thank the course designer ...who was it? Maybe I liked it so much because I finally won an event. 53.206 to 53.236. Sorry for the delay at registration we will figure it all out for a much smoother start to the day. It was a good turnout with 90+ entries. The push is on now for SEDiv event at Smokies Stadium April 11 & 12.

Re: Event #2 in the Books
I'm still absorbing everything from yesterday....
Big thanks to the thankless work that everyone does not only to set up before the event but to tear it down after.
Hope everyone had fun. I drove much better and the car is really starting to work. James is just silly fast. The tires we ran were probably older than jy's car up front and proved hard to work with but they got it done just barely before we corded the right front.
That was my best finish in a long time down here.
If I can get the data and video uploaded I'll post.

Re: Event #2 in the Books
I take responsibility for the course... I take great pains to try my best to lay out courses that not only allow some high top speeds.. but also give small cars at least a fighting chance on a uphill/downhill venue. I feel like yesterday was a PRIME example of fair.. a BIG car and a small car with pretty equal talent finished .069 seconds apart.. I don't how much closer you car make it... I liked the course myself. . . and I didn't pre-drive it. It definitely took some tight lines up top.. and some crazy Kahunas on the bottom to get time shaved off.. I was second guessing my braking points at the bottom of the hill a couple of times! lol
Congrats Cathers... you flung that car on your last run!

I'm glad you liked it JB cause I thought it was the worst cousre ever at pelli and I don't mind losing but being raw timed by several small cars doesn't make it a fair cousre for both small and large cars. If not for a Danny Popp set up vette, no big cars with power would have been up front, 104 cones and 47 dnf's and yes some of the dnf's were due to newbies and them not walking the course, I know I and Pilson were never over 30 % throttle except once straight going down the chute. The only thing decent for all cars were the slaloms.

Well I'm really pleased with yesterday's event. 97 drivers and 5 runs a piece was a bit ambitious but everyone helped and we got it done with no major problems. Thanks to all the Chiefs and their crews that made it happen.

Well.. maybe I liked it cause I was on good tires again.. All I know, is the lil Red wagon.. is on rails again, and rollin!
KK and Harp have really upped their game lately...
Saloms are the only place a small car has to equal the score I thought. I actually thought the saloms were too tight.. (that's where I hit all my cones)

Had a lot of fun. Clean day .awesome layout. Not a lot of downtime. We seemed organized. Great job team. Thanks to JR. Congrats Walt

Who'da thought putting gas in the engine would make the car go faster!? Fuel pump...just one more thing to add to the freakin' "wear items" on this car.John Brown wrote:

My thoughts on the course.
Yeah the top was pinchy. You had to be tight and tidy. Absolutely no momentum for me, and a very weird shift point (going into the slalom). BUT, I found that I could do it just a little bit harder up there every run, especially that first hard offset.
After seeing Cathers wring both of the big cars through there, and knowing how little momentum I could keep up top, I can't see how the course was unfair. Now, it didn't LOOK great, but it drove pretty good. bottom half was awesome.

I thought it all ran pretty smooth and on time for 97 entries.

Re: Event #2 in the Books
Sorry for any kind of delay in registration. In addition to the learning on the job stuff, I made some dumb mistakes like importing the registrations to the wrong event. On that note, it sure would be nice if more people would pre-register. You don't have to pre-pay and you aren't obligated to show up.
Anyway, huge thanks to John for the drive in the Miata. I didn't drive it near as aggressively as I could have and was dropping time each run, but it was still crazy fun. It handles great and is super easy to place. Tight line on the sweeper up top or backside the exit? I'LL TAKE BOTH, PLEASE!
