Event #2 Sound "Hall of Shame"
Event #2 Sound "Hall of Shame"
We had two violations - we issued no DNFs and it would NOT have affected ANY outcomes if we had (I checked).
That said, DNFs will start being handed out freely (over 97.5db observed), ESPECIALLY for our following winners (losers) from this event - you've been notified.
The following cars exceeded 97.0: ASP135, CAMC45, XP06, XP1
The following cars exceeded 96.0: EM1, STM86, STU313
The following cars exceeded 95.0: ASP99, STM96, STS96, PSTS96, STM17
The following cars exceeded 94.0: ASP199, STR34
The following cars exceeded 93.0: STM61, STM130, PESP99, PESP199
Dishonorable mention (over 90): CAMC99, STM30, STS55, CAMS22
That is all - I expect Smokies will be "mostly advisory" in nature (don't go crazy), so that gives everyone over 30 days and a test date before the next Pellissippi event - the quieter we are, the better off we'll be.

So, just to clarify, the limit is 97.5 and lifting the throttle while passing the meter is illegal?

Short answer = Yes.Teufelshund wrote:So, just to clarify, the limit is 97.5 and lifting the throttle while passing the meter is illegal?
Actually, the current "limit" is 96, and our current rule wording allows for 1.5db meter tolerance.
It would be best if everyone worked to keep it under 95db.
Out of the back of the car too, John Brown... (not just 50' to the side)

Mine was in the 86-87 level area, I guess it may be time to get new ones as the packing may be getting blown out. Thanks Mike

We cut Jims' glass packs apart a few years ago, everyone talked about "blown out".jcox07 wrote:I guess it may be time to get new ones as the packing may be getting blown out. Thanks Mike
~12,000 miles and the glass packing was in "pristine" condition...
Just trying to steer you in the right direction (or away from the wrong).

Re: Event #2 Sound "Hall of Shame"
What was the cause of Jim's if the packing was still in that good shape?

I'm with you there, but I did hear a few people lifting past it. At least that's how it seemed.John Brown wrote:lifting the throttle??? what da fugg?? win>sound anytime!! lol

Re: Event #2 Sound "Hall of Shame"
JY and a couple of others had commented on how much louder my car was last yr at chilhowee park (when listened to from behind) … but the meter said I was fine …
so the question is … what did my car read on the meter, and did it past the ear test from behind ? ( STS 55 )

Re: Event #2 Sound "Hall of Shame"
I can't even tell you where the sound was being taken at. I was so focused on not killing the car at that area that I was oblivious to it. Only was looking for people running
